Actually looking for some direction, or perhaps a website that summarizes or even rates the various companies out there.

I was originally looking at Mitsubishi and Sony projectors but came across these companies, which i had never heard of:

Digital Projection
Meridian
SIM2
Stewart

how do they rate in general to like Sharp and JVC etc.

I dont think Stewart makes PJs...only screens
Sim2 makes some nice stuff..you may also want to consider the JVC line.

The best site for reviews is Projectorreviews.com. Then you have Projectorcentral.com. What is your budget for projector?

The first 2 are a bit pricey. I personally think the best "bang for the buck" are still the Sony units if you are looking for real cinema quality

thanks everyone for your posts. I had to go out of town with business and well got busy. I have some reading to do but to address some questions. I figure my budget is about $6 for a projector and screen. As for the bringing up of screens is the new black diamond screen worth it?

At 6K I would buy JVC RS15 or 25 and Carada Criterion Screen or Stewart. I have seen Stewart screens and though very nice I went Carada for a few reasons. JVC is always the projector to beat for some reason, I've owned two so far and have spent some time with them. Cust.Service is always very good to deal with as I once had an issue with my HD1 when I sold it. Sim2 is a totally different ballpark and in the 20K price range. But read up on the JVC line up as you cant go wrong with either model.

Adding a Stewart screen would put the poster out of his price range.
Sim2 stuff starts at around 5 K.

Agree with you Greg which is why I recommend the Carada over the Stewart due to price range. As for Sim2 I know most of the midrange models are way above 5K but have not seen anything in the price range you mentioned, especially buying new.

I can second the Carada recommendation. If you don't have the time or the inclination to try a DIY screen, their service and the quality of their product is excellent. They are more than happy to help you select a screen material to best complement your projector if you've already picked it out, too.

Guys thanks for the screen ideas I'll check them out. I was looking at a Sim2 D60 for the projector. I have listed in another thread. so much to learn and pay attention to. thanks
