Powered Subwoofer for around $100-$150ish? (2 Viewers)

Just needed some input/suggestions on a decent powered sub for my home for the listed price range, if possible? I had some suggestions (good or bad?), listed below, any input or additional info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Can you go to $165? The v1020 BIC looks like a twin to Hsu's STF-2. link the $139 BIC RTR 120 also looks suspiciously like a Hsu product. link

You may be able to beat that price. I didn't search out price. I was just looking at BIC subs after someone on another board was talking about the value they are. That guy got his new from BIC on ebay for $95.

I was just on the Hsu site and someone has asked about the BIC label on the box from their STF-2 from CompUSA. So, I went in the attic and looked at the box my STF-2 from CompUSA came in and sure enough there is a UPS shipping label showing it was shipped from ... BIC America.

Ok, so I take-it that the Hsu powered-subs/products you've mentioned (i.e., STF-2 and RTR 120)are worth a look at? I'm new to the forum and have been "surfing" it a lot today to try a find some info. There is a lot of discussions about the Dayton 10" 100 watt downfiring sub. Any comparisons w/ the Dayton and Bic subs? Thanks so much for the input, again, Chris.

Hsu, SVS, and Adire are considered the best values in subs under $500-600. The Hsu STF-2 was $349 at CompUSA and is now reported to be at the $399 that Hsu sells it direct for at CompUSA too. It looks like the BIC subs are Hsu twin/clone for under $150.

Well, I'm not that happy. I just got the STF-2 at CompUSA. Looks like I might be eating that restock fee.

Alright, according to BIC their versions don't have the same quality of componets that the subs they make for Hsu and Outlaw(the LFM-1) do.

I'm still confident it will best those other subs.

Ok Chris. Thanks. Didn't mean to cause any problems. So I take it that you still think the BIC V1020 is still worth consideration?

Yes! It still uses a Bash amp and has a 7 year waranty on the driver and 2 years on the electronics. It would take buying one of each and taking them apart to know how(if) the subs are different. The design is still basicly Hsu's even if it isn't the same driver and crossover.

Hey Chris. I noticed that BIC offers a "silver" sub for the V1020 (listed as v1020s). Plenty of sites available to purchase. Can't find a pic for it though. Anybody have any input? Also, it looks like I have to decide on one of the two.......Dayton 10" or the BIC v1020....decisions...decisions...

You may be able to get a velodyne VX10GY for around that price. I've seen it at ridiculous prices considering the $299 MSRP

Thanks Andy. Like the other recommendations I got from the board (Dayton and BIC) I don't know much about subwoofers at all. I take it the velodyne VX10GY is a good one?

Chris, I noticed that there is a BIC v1020 AND a v1015. The v1020 supposedly has 160 watts RMS, 350 watts peak. The v1015 (replaced D101R - retail $350) has 250 RMS watts, 600 watts peak. Both are about the same price ($160ish), but the v1015 has more punch, apparently. Any suggestions? I noticed you referenced the v1020, did you mean the "new" v1015?

The first site I went to and linked I only saw the 1020 at the time but yes I'd take the 1015 over the 1020.

Ok thanks. It may be tough to get the v1015 since it has been discontinued, apparently, but I'll try. I don't think I could go wrong w/ either-one, though, based on your input, along w/ others.
