Philips DVD825 Player problems (1 Viewer)

I have a Philips DVD 825 player and I just noticed this morning while trying to pop in a DVD for my son that the tray will no longer open. I have power, but my player will not respond to any commands. It just flashes "open" on the display. Any ideas? My son must have his Scooby Doo fix.

I have this same player but have not experienced this problem before. If there is a disk in it, trying playing it and then ejecting it. Other stupid suggestions include:

1) Try the open/close on the remote and the unit itself

2) Try unplugging the unit for a while

3) This probably voids the warranty, but take the cover off and see if something is jamming the tray

I did all three. I think the player is fried.
Looks like a trip to Best Buy. Any suggestions on a decent DVD player for around $200-250? I think I will bring up the Toshiba 2109 for the living room and buy myself a new player for my home theater in the basement.
