    +1

With that said, it seemed anytime there was an explosion, debris broke the stereo window and entered negative z-space. The same goes for any particle matter floating about, Volcano ash.. etc.

Along with the spear chuck out of the screen homage, there was a nice shot of the small ship used on a covert mission, piloted by Kirk, Spock, and Uhura. During a chase, the ship comes out of a fissure, straight out of the screen and holds there for a second or two before dropping back down. When seen on the large IMAX 3-D screen, it inspired a low level "ohhhh" from the crowd.

1.85 or 2.4 ratio for the Blu-ray? Amazon says 1.85.

It's 2.35. Amazon might be wrong more than they're right. :)

I never trust Amazon specs. They seem to be wrong more than they are right.

    Confirmed. 2.35:1 aspect ratio throughout.

    NO 1.78 IMAX sequences!

Way to go Paramount! For this reason alone I will not be purchasing this or Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol on Blu-ray.

Considering 1.78:1 isn't the proper IMAX ratio i just don't see what the fuss is about, i'm happy it's 2.35:1 and i hope the 3D edition is the same aspect ratio.

Umm, neither is 2.35:1. In fact, it's even more wrong than 1.78.

2.35:1 is not "wrong," it's the aspect ratio at which the movie was released to conventional theaters.

While I always prefer Blu-rays to include multiple versions of a file when they're available, if they're only going to include one version, I think the 2:35:1 version is the correct choice. It better replicates the theatrical experience, and it allows the movie to be displayed on constant-height displays.
Having a way to replicate the IMAX release of the film would be nice, too, but just including a few scenes in full-screen doesn't really accomplish that.

I just wish that The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises were available on Blu-ray in the 2:35:1 versions.

No, as cafink above states, it's absolutely correct, why do you think it's wrong.

For the record let me also say that Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol has reference video and sound on blu ray, you are denying yourself the opportunity to watch a very entertaining film.

Yeah, it's not something that can really be replicated outside of an IMAX theater. I guess it'd be nice if every version was represented on the disc but popping out to 1.78 from 2.35 doesn't quite capture the impressive nature of IMAX.

Just watched mine (it comes out in UK on 2nd Sept). Audio/Visual are out of this world :) Audio especially is stunning :D The movie I think conforms to the old sequel 60% rule as in its 40% less enjoyable than the 2009 IMO :( Way too many borrowed plot elements from TWOK...........

These pics are what the already OOP ES Exclusive Steelbook looks like (not worth paying big bucks for on ebay the colours are too muted as its not a gloss finish). The extras are just 6 docs(not the same as the German 3D release either these are all different). You get 3D BD, 2D BD, I-Tunes/Windows Media Player Digital copy redeem code....thats it nothing else!

    Extras are:
    Creating the Red Planet
    Attack on Starfleet
    The Klingon Home World
    The Enemy of My Enemy
    Ship to Ship
    Brawl by the Bay

Seriously. ? The audio commentary isn't on the disc. ?

Is this a thin veiled first move to start trying to get us to go for streaming/download versions of films.

If they are testing the waters for that, I think they've found that people do not like it. While it's only enthusiasts and Trek fans that care, I'd say that there's been a fairly significant negative reaction that they won't ignore for future releases.

Correct. The commentary is not on the 2D or 3D version of the film on blu ray.

I just looked at the 3D review to confirm that disc as well.

I could not agree with Bill Hunt's comments more.

I cannot believe I am saying this, but I will not be purchasing this title until one of two things happens:

    a) a fully-fledged SE is available with the core special features, like the commentary track, included on the Blu-ray.

    b) it ends up at some super cheap price ($9.99 territory) on sale.
