Here is the first Blu-ray announcement from Paramount. It only covers May and June, so I anticipate more announcements as we get closer to summer. While this announcement has been a long time coming, the titles are coming much faster--the first three titles will be released in three weeks, and the first day and date release will be in June. Here a quick summary of the titles, features and release dates included in this announcement. I have requested technical specs for each release and will post them here as soon as I receive them.

May 20th: Bee Movie, Next and Face/Off
Bee Movie: Special features include "Barry's Trivia Track" with pop up trivia, changeable menus, Build-A-Bee avatar creation, lost scenes, alternate endings and more.
Next: Special features include a making of featurette, "Visualizing the Next Move", the Next Grand Idea" and Two Minutes in the Future with Jessica Biel".
Face/Off: Special features include multiple commentaries, deleted scenes, alternate ending, making of and more.

June 3rd: Cloverfield and There Will Be Blood
Cloverfield: Special features include feature-length "Special Investigation Mode" with added details about the film, directory commentary, making of featurettes, deleted scenes, alternate endings with commentary and more.
There Will Be Blood: Special features include a slideshow of vintage photos selected by director Paul Thomas, deleted scenes, a featurette on dailies and more.

June 24th: The Spiderwick Chronicles (first day and date release)
The Spiderwick Chronicles: special features include behind the scenes featurettes, an exploration of the Spiderwick world, and exclusive peek inside Arthur Spiderwick's Field Guide and much more.

August (International releases): The Spiderwick Chronicles, Cloverfield and No Country for Old Men

That's a very good start. I'm glad too I didn't order Cloverfield yet on SDDVD, but I already own There Will Be Blood, and I'm not sure I will double-dip on that one.

No Country for Old Men is a Miramax title and a Buena Vista release came out in March. That's one of the BDs I already own, as well as some of the titles on HD DVD.

Later announcements may be interesting too! :)

I agree. Based on my conversations there is more coming. This is just clearing the backlog of recent DVD releases. Some of those big Tran.. I mean titles are coming this year. Paramount just wants to do things right and have at least the same level of interactivity that they had on some of their HD DVDs. This announcement is just the beginiing of what we can expect to see from them this year. I am exited to see that all of the titles annouced for June have most of the supliments in HD and will all have lossless audio.

I am very glad to see Paramount begin to re-release on Blu-ray!

Now I'm sure to go broke with every major studio involved in the action.

C'mon Lucasfilm and Weinstein! (I can always dig in the sofa for lost coins) ;)

Specs look well done too. And all TrueHD!

I didn't see those specs anywhere else, so thanks for that, Adam!
(Is that a scoop? :) )

Glad to see Paramount finally make their announcement. I was starting to wonder if they were going to miss their highly rumored April window.

I'm also very glad I held out on picking up Cloverfield and There Will Be Blood. :)

Thank you Paramount!!!

Hopefully we can expect a day and date release of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Hopefully the other Indy films along with it or shortly there. :D

Very true. I'm hoping we will get Indy 4 just out of inertia if nothing else. Kinda like we got Casino Royale even though the other Bond films are no where in sight.

Sorry for not including the information initially. I had to go to a second source for it. It looks like most (if not all of them) are VC-1 with a peak bit rate of around 38Mbps. While I can't get into specifics, one of the titles had three encodes done: VC-1, Brand X AVC and Brand Y AVC. The director chose the VC-1 encode for the Blu-ray release.

They've already got me on the line for both There Will Be Blood and Face/Off. Now lets just make sure they get done right... :)

I'm not sure if Paramount ever used MPEG2

I'm not sure about Face/Off (other than we will know in three weeks), but There Will Be Blood has a director approved transfer, lossless audio and most of the extras are in HD. Sounds done right to me :)

I've held off on There Will Be Blood. I can definitely wait until June 3!

Adam: Any word on MSRPs? I might even consider Cloverfield (another title I've been waiting on) if the price is right. :)
