Paramount DVD wants for 2005 (1 Viewer)

Paramount have been excellent in releasing their back catalog titles on DVD over the past few years. There are just a few classic movies that I hope they will release in 2005:

Ace In The Hole (Wilder)
One-Eyed Jacks (Brando)
If... (Anderson)
The Conformist (Bertolucci)

If Martin Blythe still reads this forum, I hope he can tell us what the chances are for any of these titles appearing.

Interesting that the first three contributors in this thread have all nominated 'Ace In The Hole' as one of their wants. I hope Paramount take notice of this!

I would love to see Waterloo (1970) with Rod Steiger and Christopher Plummer. My VHS is now nearly unwatchable.

Rex, Thanks for the update on THE KEEP. Last I remember reading here, it had been put on hold until some undetermined time. If I'm wrong on True Lies, sorry. I looked up several movies on my wait list, to determine studio some time ago, and had Paramount listed, I guess my mistake. I will check my source again.

Last year I conducted a poll on hometheaterforum and many of the movies that rated well on that poll are now out on DVD or are on the schedule for later this year or next year. Most of the time there isn't (or hasn't been) money, staffing or time to get bonus features onto them. But they are coming... even Four Flies on Grey Velvet, if it's feeling lucky.

This time around I thought I'd invite your opinions on a select batch of 11 titles, most of which are on the schedule for next year, but we have to pick the ones that get special features. Can you weigh in here?

Remember, bonus features cost money so these won't be double-disc editions, but we could try and avoid barebones. Here they are... have at it with suggestions and comments.

Yes I remember Martin Blythe saying that 'If...' had been on the 2003 release schedule but had to be taken off, probably because of some outstanding rights issues. I hope Paramount have been working at getting these resolved and that we can expect to see the DVD during 2005.

THE STERIL CUCKOO (1969)
THE RAINMAKER (1956)

I don't need a lot of extras. Just good crisp digital widescreen, non-pan and scan, but carefully contrast balanced.

I'd love to see Paramount do a wave of their silent films:

Wings
Running Wild (W.C. Fields)
Docks of New York (Von Sternberg)
Old Ironsides (James Cruze)
The Covered Wagon (James Cruze)
The Wedding March (Stroheim)
The Last Command (Emil Jannings)
The Ten Commandments (1923 version)

All of these have digital stereo scores by Gaylord Carter (all Wurlitzer organ) from the old laserdisc/VHS editions. Furthermore, while extras are obviously hard for silents... it would be neat to just have commentaries.

Restoration shouldn't be a huge problem for these films. From reviews I've read, all of the Paramount silents released on VHS and LD looked wonderful. Of course, it wouldn't be a BAD idea to have rougher segments digitally restored (like the 16mm segments of The Covered Wagon).
