I am just curious which should provide better stereo sound ??? I have an old (guessing 7-8 years) Sony CDP-491 CD player with only analog outputs that still works just fine. My DVD player is a Toshiba SD4800. When playing CD's on either one, there is a definite difference in sound... but I am really not sure which I prefer or which actually produces the most accurate sound. If I was sure my DVD player is going to give me the best sound, I would retire the Sony CD player or maybe stick it in the garage with my old amp and speakers. What's the consensus... should an old analog CD player be retired in favor of a modern DVD player ???

If the dvd player has a digital hookup and is pretty decent, and assuming you're not using an extremely good cd player with extremely good interconnects the dvd player will probably be better overall.
