Why do my 4 ohm subs only read 1.5 ohms on the meter?

I'm not an expert, but I'll go with the basics - impedance varies by frequency; when a manufacturer states 4 ohms it's an average over all frequencies. Also, if you're just putting a meter across the terminals you're measuring DC resistance, which is not the same as AC impedance, which is what the speaker manufacturer is reporting.

Are they dual voice coils? If so, how are they wired? What subs are they?
