Will, I'm having the same problem with AM too.
And, like Will, I've sometime found that "cheap" radios pick up AM better than the AM section on receivers.
My old Sony receiver handled 5.1 and decoded DD and (even) DTS. While certainly not as expensive as your 5700, it wasn't a cheap radio. You can call it a cheap receiver if you wish. Still, some AM stations came in fine with my old receiver. The antenna that came with the 950 and the antenna that came with my old receiver look pretty similar. They're both standard (cheap?) AM antenna coils. If I put the old receiver's AM antenna on my 950, the reception is real static-y, same as if I put the AM antenna included with the 950. Not so on my old Sony. But maybe I'm doing something wrong on the 950?
