I guess I do have one more film to see from the Top 6 categories and then I'm done - Diane Keaton in Something's Gotta Give.

Thread Title should say "Complete list of Oscar 2003 Nominations" or something like that.

Anyway go here for all nominees.

And yes, everybody will have a favorite that was not nominated. So what else is new? :)

Well, of course, I'm thrilled about ROTK's 11 nominatoins (espeially glad about the writing nod), although I wish Sean Astin had been in there, too.

But the one I was really happy with was Keisha Castle-Hughes for Best Actress. Seriously, anyone who has not seen Whale Rider needs to. What a wonderful film, and wonderful performance; I'm glad the voters remebered it.

As much as I realize how much politics goes into all this, I'm really pretty pleased with most of the nominations. Some really good films being recognized here.

EDIT: Wow, I hadn't noticed that discrepency between the two lists on Sound Editing. I hope they get that worked out.

Wow, mad props for City of God, I wasn't even sure it was up for this year's awards. As usual, when a foreign language film gets a few major nominations, the weird Foreign Language Film category isn't one of them. The DVD is coming out within a couple of weeks of the awards ceremony, so hopefully more people will see this fantastic movie now.

Oh, my God, guys... this may be historic, or the first time in many, many years this has happened:

3 of the 5 Best Picture nominees have NO acting nominations!

I'm amazed, I've actually seen all the films in all the categories that aren't called Foreign Language (I've seen 2), Documentary (0), and the two shorts (0 each). I think that's a record for me!

This is for discussion of the nominations. If the mods want to change the thread title, no problem.

I'm just over the moon about
Djimon Hounsou
Keisha Castle-Hughes
Samantha Morton
Naomi Watts
CITY OF GOD (4 nominations!!)
THE TWILIGHT SAMURAI (2 nominations!! One of my favorite films from last year)
"The Triplets of Belleville" - THE TRIPLETS OF BELLEVILLE (the coolest song in the world)
AMERICAN SPLENDOR wasn't shut out
DIRTY PRETTY THINGS wasn't shut out

Craig is right about the discrepancy between the printable list and the online list. What is up with that? A typo, or are we seeing an Academy slip-up -- a runner-up being accidentally listed?

Holy Shit!

City of God- FOUR Noms including Best Director!!! I must be in Heaven. Admit it, NOBODY saw that coming. And also, Miramax does not have a BP nom. The streak is broken. Disappointed to se The Whale Rider Girl (not even going to try to type her name correctly) over Evan Rachel Wood. Oh Well.

Where the hell is Matrix Reloaded for Visual Effects? I can't be the only one who thinks it's inherently wrong for it not to be nominated!

This was discussed a while ago but sadly neither Matrix film made the final seven finalists for the Visual Effects nomination. There is no greater proof of Matrix backlash than that.

Can you give a quick rundown of why that is, Edwin? I know that each country can only nominate one film for the foreign language category, but how is it that a movie can be nominated for other categories without even being eligible for best foreign film?

Three comedic acting nominations are surprising. Johnny Depp, Bill Murray, and Diane Keaton. IMHO the only worthy one is Murray. Keaton is too over the top in Something's Gotta Give, and Depp's role is too lightweight.
