B&H and Gamestop are also taking preorders. If you don't live in NY B&H won't collect tax, GS and Google both do.

Mine is still awaiting delivery, hopefully in a week or two, but while we wait I'll start collecting reviews up at the top of this thread, if you see one I haven't posted put it in a reply and i will add it here.

Hmmm.... So it comes w/ built-in GPS hardware even though it's WiFi-only (unlike most any other tablet)? Wonder if they've improved Google Nav caching of map data to make it very usable w/out mobile data access.

Might finally get a tablet for my mother (and maybe more)...

At this price, I'm considering getting one of these just to get some hands-on time with Android. I also would like to get a single "one-hands" device that can access both my Kindle & B&N Nook libraries (which it should be able to do via those companies' respective Android apps). Of course, I can do this with my iPad & iPhone, but I've always considered phone screens too small for prolonged reading, and the iPad is a "two-hands" device which is a bit heavy for long reading sessions.

Since it would be primarily a reading and Android-play device the limited storage is not an issue.

That said, I've been spoiled by the amazingly crisp text on the 3rd gen iPad (the first I've seen that is better than e-Ink), so I'll probably wait until I can see one in a store and eyeball the text quality for myself. Fry's is also taking pre-orders, so I should be able to pop over there and check one out in a few weeks.

Looking forward to your impressions, Sam. Are you getting the 8GB or 16GB model??

I'm definitely pissed that people could walk into a store and buy these yesterday and today and mine won't get to me until mid next week.
Google can blame UPS all they want but it's bullshit.

They must be having snowball fights in hell today - M.G. Siegler is singing the praises of the Nexus 7:

I broke down and pre-ordered one (8 GB) from Google early last week. Got my shipping notice Friday night, but it hasn't fully entered the system yet, so I don't know when it's coming. But it should be this week. My main use is for reading. If it's as good as everyone says it is my Kindle & Nook will go up for sale later this week and I'll be out of the E Ink game for good.

I still don't have a status update on when mine might ship. If it hasn't shpped already I want my $15 GD dollars shipping fee removed.
They probably didn't make enough for you, the 16gig version is all they made available to other retailers and the first shipment was used up last week. Google is the only one to carry the 8gig and that's probably all the stock that's left at the moment. Yours will probably come in early August.

Epic Fail #1:

Is that a WUsthof???
Epic Fail #2: Spent an hour waiting for them to pick up the phone, they couldn't tell me anything more about my order, wouldn't take ownership of the issue, wouldn't admit they fucked up, wouldnt give me my $14 shipping fee back...

Something tells me that video is playing on every desktop at Apple right now.

Had to Google "Wusthof" - thought it was some new internet acronym I wasn't familiar with (and now everyone knows I'm not a foodie). I thought the guy trying to open it with his collar stay was the best.

I will have my handy box cutter standing by tomorrow. It'll make short work of those damned stickers!!!

Sorry to hear you're getting boned on your shipment, Sam. The fact that Google has to charge $14 to ship these (Apple almost always ships pre-ordered hardware free for delivery on release day) is an indication of how tiny their margin must be on this thing.

I got my UPS shipping notification late Friday. I was getting the invalid return on it all weekend. It finally resolved this morning.

Check yours again mid-morning tomorrow. What's probably happening is Google is using pre-paid and pre-allocated numbers, and they won't show in tracking until UPS gets their hands on the package and gets the number in their system.
