Conan: Llamas getting humped.
Beastmaster: What happens after the Llama (or cow) gets humped.

Hmm, I'm seeing a pattern here. Who writes these movies, Furries?

Aren't you inspired by the deep, inner searching of the philosophical dialogue in these art films?
Jonathan, I think they're written by romance novel authors.

I hate to use this forum for this, but...I will. ;-)
Hank, could you send me an email, speakerscott@hotm**l.com
(replace the ** with ai if you didn't get it...I try to avoid spam)
Thanks!
Scott
(P.S. my friends and I re-wrote a bawdy song entitled "The Moose Song" to be a bawdier song called "The Llama Song" and it sounds like it's quite apropos at the moment)
Llama, Llama, I like a Llama
I've never had anything quite like a llama
I've had many lovers, your dad and your mamma
But I've never had anything quite like a llama
Yes I have very weird friends.

Well, Scott, I think this...
Llama, Llama, I like a Llama
I've never had anything quite like a llama
I've had many lovers, your dad and your mamma
But I've never had anything quite like a llama I like a Llama
...very well may have scared off anyone on the fence about attending their first Austin HTF meet.

Dah, well. If they can't laugh at a nice little bestiality limerick, who needs them there :^D. And before anybody corrects me, I have no idea what actually defines a limerick, so if that was a sonnet, haiku, iambic pentameter, or some other classification of poetry, I apologize :b.

Scott - I sent you an e-mail. Why did you want it - to capture my address so you can send me bad limericks ad infinitum?

Yes Steve, I'm sure Scott's literary misadventure has convinced lurkers to definitely stay far away from this Wild Bunch!. I can picture the WAF scene:
Wife, looking over shoulder of hubby, reading this thread:
"You are NOT going to that meet with THOSE animals! AND furthermore, I've decided I will allow only IN-WALL speakers!"

So what's the latest count of people and gear attending? I think we're getting close enough to the date. I believe we have another pre/pro to toss in the mix. Mark just got an HK Signature 2.0 off Audiogon for a sweet deal.

Can we confirm that the following pre/pros will be available? I'll mark each one as confirmed once we know for sure.

Acurus ACT3
Rotel 1066
B&K Reference 30
Outlaw 950 (confirmed)
Theta Casablanca
HK Signature 2.0 (confirmed)
Classé SSP-50 (confirmed)

Looks like the HK will be the underdog in that group (though it'll win the sexy blue LED contest hands down :D)It's arriving at my parent's house on the 8th, so assuming I can get them to drop it by Austin, it should be here.

Mark: Congratulations on the FP!
Mark and Colin: I helped Nils contact cement his PlasTex screen material to a sheet of 1/2" MDF last weekend and will probably help him attatch it to his HT room wall in the next few days. You guys might want to consider that material - it's dirt cheap. Maybe Nils would be willing to let you see it in action.
I did verify that's a subwoofer under the baby crib. Erik is a future basshead. :)

Mark -

Congratulations on the projector purchase. You will no longer settle for a 40-65" RPTV ... when you can carry around a little box that puts out a BIGGER picture!

Hank -

I still need to pick your brain on exactly how I am going to frame/mount this screen...

All -

I can bring a Classé SSP-50 pre-pro to the meet if you want another processor for comparison.

Also ... I am going to blast out a reminder E-mail tomorrow so we can get the final, official guest list compiled...

Mark,

WTG on the Sharp.

Just one important question... you do know about the diference between the M20X-A and the M20X, and why Sharp discontinued the "A" version, right? If not, don't panic, as it isn't really a big deal, but if you like I can share with you what information I have.

If you got it for a great price (say about $2,500 or less) then it likely wont make a diference, and if you can't return the projector, then don't even worry about it as there is nothing you can do any way that would be worth the cost or effort.

But if some sleazy retailer charged you over $2,800 without informing you of why it had been discontinued and they have a return policy or willing to make an exchange, then I'd be happy to assist you any way I can.

Colin,

Watch out for Hank and contact cement.... he's a wild & crazy guy when using that stuff.

I thought for a minute he was going to get permanently glued to my garage floor.

Hank,

I just got your email, and yes... love to have an extra pair of hands to help me guide that sucker up on the wall. I'll call you this evening.

Oh it's the brightness thing, don't worry I know about it. 1500 lumens is still way more than I need. I viewed the M20XA and liked it, and Dad got it for about $1000 less than the regular version.

Sounds great! You may want also want to consider adding an iScan Pro to the mix. Not only will it have a noticable imrovement over the Sharp's built in scaler from Advanced Image, but there is even an added bonus to doing this.
The M20X has no video component inputs, only S-Video and composite, but if you have an iScan (or other external scalers with component inputs and VGA outputs) you can then run component cable from your DVD player into the iScan, then use the VGA output from the iScan into the Sharp's RGB input thus giving you a significantly better image than having to only use the S-Video input.
Regardless, this should make a fine HT piece as well as presentation projector for your father. So then the next question is, when do we get a demo? :)

Update: I mentioned the brightness thing to Dad and it turns out he wasn't aware that he'd gotten an M20XA, he just thought he was getting a really good deal on the regular model. Since he needs it for lights-on conferences, he's going to call up the dealer Friday and get the full-brightness version. I'm happy with either, as this one is on daddy's coin simply because he needs it a few weeks out of the year :D
Also, the M20X will take a component video input on Input 1 if configured to. Sharp makes a cable specifically to convert component video to the "15 pin D-sub" connector for Input 1, which I'm assuming is the VGA port. So no need for transcoders or external scalers. The S-video input using the Sharp's internal Civic deinterlacer was just OK when I demo'd it, but I'm definitely going to be going with a Faroudja based progressive scan player through component for film based stuff (the Civic in the Sharp should be fine for video games).
As for demo's, I still have to get my pre/pro, surround speakers, DVD player, screen, masking system, etc in place... Figure sometime early August perhaps? Definitely want to have you guys over for a meet.

Colin, I added the Classe to the confirmed list. When you send out the reminder email you might also ask everyone to include what they're bringing in the RSVP.

Off-topic, can any locals who have experience with HTPC drop me an email? I'm in the process of designing one (that's right, Mr. Two-Channel is finally gonna make the jump into theater). I'm specifically interested if anyone has ever used an Echo sound card with WinDVD 4 Plus. No, I don't do anything the easy way.
