I'm hoping to put together a home theatre system, and I already had most of the components around the house already(DVD player, amplifier, speakers). The only thing is, I have no way of making these work together yet because my DVD player doesn't have an integrated Dolby Digital decoder. Can I buy just the decoder separately, (if so, what's worth getting?) or do I have to shell out the cash for a full blown receiver?

How many speakers, and what kind of "amplifier" do you have? All DVD players will put out stereo analog sound. That could be all you need.

Yes more info of your current gear would be very helpful.
There is a new thread about outboard decoders at AVS if you actually need a stand alone decoder.
