What really sucks is that this fiasco isn't getting the attention it deserves on major DVD websites like The Digital Bits, etc. It seems nobody but us here in the forum have noticed how crappy this new set is and how MGM really screwed us over. Even Ron himself just now took notice.

Earlier in this thread I reported that the Canadian version of the Rocky Anthology may not include the bonus disc because when I opened mine it was not included. It's obvious from reading the rest of this thread that MGM really screwed consumers over.

The only reason I was able to give back my other Rocky box set to the store I originally bought it from was because I am a good customer and they know me there.

I went looking for the Rocky Anthology at some other stores. Futureshop was not carrying it with the bonus disc but, I found it at HMV. What was unusual was that half the display was marked as containing the A&E bonus disc and the other half were not. They were all mixed in together. The average consumer would not be able to tell the difference unless they were informed beforehand.

I got home and opened the set and discovered that the it did contained the bonus disc since it was marked. The downside is that the bonus disc is in a very cheap, thin and flimsy cardboard case. It appears that MGM could not even bother to put this bonus disc in a keep case like the rest of the DVDs.

Hopefully the DVDs are superior in picture and sound compared to the last set. I have decided to keep the initial Rocky Box set instead of selling it off because of the special features that were dropped from the original Rocky.

I am not exactly outraged by this but; I will admit that I am disappointed in the way that MGM has handled the latest Rocky box set. This is definitely not the definitive version I was hoping for.

Thanks!!! I got another set from Target for $39.99 that has the sticker for the A&E Bonus disc. They had two sets left and both had the A&E sticker as opposed to the HD Transfer Best Buy Sticker.

Still waiting to see what comes from BestBuy.com before returning it along with the original unopened Bonus-less Best Buy retail purchase I assumed had the disc.

Question on supplements:

If I pick up the original Rocky SE and keep the new box am I missing anything?? I want to dump the old copies of 2,3,4, and 5 without losing supplements if possible.

I returned my Anthology yesterday for a new one. (One of the discs was floating and had been scratched -- I hate when that happens.) I also wanted a copy with the sixth disc. They had none. The "media specialist" had no idea what I was talking about when I asked about the A&E bonus disc. 2 Best Buys in 2 days -- no copies with bonus disc. I figure it will appear next week or sometime down the line in abundance but not at sale price, as it is this week.

I think we all should contact MGM regarding this.

I'll contact Bill Hunt and have him read
this thread and hopefully draw some attention
to this matter on The Digital Bits

I'm a bit upset that MGM puts out this
new and improved anthology with none of
the supplements that were in the original
anthology -and- doesn't include the bonus
disc that was advertised.

There will be some noise made about this over
the next few days for sure. Promise.

Ron:

The only thing you're missing is the ROCKY I SPECIAL EDITION commentary and extras. What you have in its place here is a really good DTS track (I don't know the bit-rate, but it sounds excellent) and what appears to be an improved transfer.

There ARE trailers on each disc, which if memory serves is exactly how many supplements were on the original ROCKY II, III, IV and V discs to begin with.

I would pick up this set with no hesitation because of the 16:9 transfers and 5.1 tracks. They're all better than the original releases across the board. Just keep the original Special Edition on-hand if you need those extras.

Aside from the bonus disc's lack of inclusion in some copies (it came in mine), I don't think this set is an injustice. The new RAMBO box set is far, far worse, since it drops DTS and many special features from the previous Special Editions. Here, you're not missing anything except the ROCKY I extras, which can be easily rectified by picking up a copy of that disc (which is well under $10 online).

My only complaint is that MGM puts out
an updated release of this anthology touting
a better audio/video transfer but actually
ends up dumbing down its value by omitting
the extras found on the original release.

...then there's the matter of a bonus disc
that was promised but not included.

We are not looking for blood here. I would
just like to see MGM take care of all of us
that expected a bonus disc and did not receive
one.

I doubt I'll be picking up the new set but I'm thinking about getting the older 16x9 release of Rocky IV. So my question is how does this transfer look compared to the orginal letterbox version and did they fix the russian subtitles?

The subtitles are fixed on the anamorphic Rocky IV. I haven't seen the original letterbox one in a while, so I really can't give you a comparison. The image on the anamorphic IV is decent though.

I'll be picking up the original Rocky and use a double amaray for the new set. Although I was one of the lucky ones that did get a bonus disc, I do think MGM dropped the ball big time. It would have been nice if there was an actual bonus disc covering all of the films. But I guess that's too much to ask for.

Hate to tell you this...

I ordered mine through Lasers Edge
and they advertise a bonus disc as well.

None received in my set.

Why would they know about a bonus disc if their store does not carry the set that includes it?? No mystery there...
