The sheet rock is messy, but it is the stage that pulls the room together. Click on the link in my sig, I did most of the work myself, but I did have help from my friends with the lifting a one of them is a licensed contractor. The best thing was all the help was paid by beer and pizza. LOL! I will be glad when it is over too. So far we have all the sheet rock up and 2 layers of spackle. The third is going in this coming weekend, then primer, maybe some touch up spackle (again - my friend is a perfectionist) and then paint. Still haven't decided what to do for the floor and furniture, but time will tell. Good lUck to you and you project...

Uh....you're just referring to drywall mud as 'Spackle', right? You're not USING Spackle, right?

I didn't look at the photos, but what we called staggered studs was for soundproofing applications where we built a thicker wall than normal. Using a wider track and cap, conventional-sized studs alternated one flush to the front, the next to the back, and so on.
This allowed one continuous roll of insulation to be woven through the 'slalom-course' set up by the studs.
We usually double-sheeted this wall as well.

No spackle for me. (reminds me of a Sienfeld episode)

Yeah, I got a good lesson on staggering, I'll admit that I knew nothing of that until reading in this forum. There is so much great info in here that it is mind boggling. The only thing keeping from having the worlds best HT is my budget!

Thank you Wes and Parker!

Actually, I have had this HT and the adjacent Media Room in my head for a couple of years. With exception to the location of the doorway between the two rooms the structure is exactly how I imagined it. I sketched the ideas out and my builder made it happen. I have had a ton of fantastic input from my HT guys at The Home Theater Store in Kennesaw, GA. along the way. No doubt that those guys have saved me a ton of mistakes through out the process. The Home Theater Store is also the supplier/designer of my system to be installed for these rooms. I can't tell you how impressed I have been with them and the level of service they have displayed, despite my many changes and modifications.
