I think George Feltenstein has alot to do with the quality of these dvd's and even for the fact some are issued in such beautiful editions, though not just him. In the years he was with MGM laserdisc, it was about the time he started working for them that those great special edition laserdiscs started coming out, MGM was one of the first and was always in the top as far as quality. Many of them say "Produced for laserdisc by George Feltenstein." I was able to get a call into him once around 1993 when I was publishing my magazine "Movies on Laserdisc." I was not able to talk with him very long, but he did mention he constantly fights for the release of and transfers from new elements of the classics and had even supervised many of the transfers. I really believe he is hard at work at Warners for the love of these films. I don't say you're wrong though, I am quite satisfied knowing there are also others at Warner who are working hard to bring these discs to us. It's very obvious in everything from the beautiful disc packaging (using the original poster art) right down to the extras and transfers. They are a dedicated group of movie lovers, and I sure wish every studio hired this type of person.
And, I think we are in for one awesome edition of BEN HUR, finally! Now let's hope for the same with How the West was Won.
