Couldn't they just stick to smaller non US type movies? I know alot of those don't contain any CGI but I'm not sure how they would fit in with the rigid non campy, non melodramatic type stuff.

In keeping with the spirit of the thread, Ronin has CGI smoke added to a shot of a car spinning its wheels.

I need to get out more, but not with these people.

I'm getting the impression David's "friends" don't actually exist and that he was, as usual, just trying to stir the pot ;) Soon enough, he'll post again, with something along the lines of "I didn't foresee the discussion would turn out like this. Mods, this thread has served its purpose, please close it".

Richardo, what about the Amish, who would not touch anything that is modern? I must admit that my friends have very strange tastes, but do some of us?

Please everyone, contribute. This is a recommendations thread, not a discussion about my friends' tastes in films.

these are all films that, unless i'm mistaken, and it can defineately happen, don't use cgi.

jackass the movie
cky 1-4
unbreakable
thomas crown affair
taxi driver
snatch
scream 1-3
old school
oceans eleven
adam sandler movies
meet the parents
goodfellas
scarface
the game
fargo
family man
clerks
blue streak
all about the benjamins
and matrix reloaded (sorry, i couldn't help it)

again, i'm not a dvd fanatic, so i don't know about mattes and other non obvious forms of cgi, but that off the top of my head. i can see a lot of comedy steering clear of it, but if they are interested in any action flick or sci-fi flick ever made, they are probably out of luck. independant films on the other hand, they should be alright with.

Y'know, the evil little pervert in me just wants to recommend Debbie Does Dallas as a fine, non-CGI-using movie to enjoy.

Oops...I'm gonna get flamed for THAT one! :b

Eric, my friends do not like Adam Sandler films and "Jackass the Movie" is very low-brow. As for David, they also despise pornographic films. Everyone, no martial arts films please.

I only watch movies made with hand-cranked cameras and natural lighting.
If it has electricity, I´m out.
Any suggestions?

David, I'm sorry, but I agree with some of the folks here. I think your friends are really denying themselves some wonderful films with such a huge limitation. I can understand not wanting to see NOTICABLE cgi...but none whatsoever??

So, let me get this straight. No camp, no sentimental, no melodrama, no martial arts, no low-brow humour, no porn, no "second-rate" transfers and no CGI whatsoever. Wow. That counts out most of what I would suggest. (Personally, I think your friends limitations are preventing them from seeing some excellent films... but that's just me.)

Has anyone suggested the original Planet of the Apes yet? :D

Perhaps your friends should peruse the AFI's top 100 films, and see what is to their liking?

Gee. Your friends are BORING, man.

Okay. Howzaboot one of them Andy Warhol movies, Like "Sleep", "Kiss" or "Empire"? They surely don´t have camp, sentimental, melodrama, martial arts, low-brow humour, porn, "second-rate" transfers and no CGI AT ALL.

Update: Several minutes ago, I spoke to my friends on how they are restricting their viewing choices by insisting on a "no-CGI" stance. Knowing that they are severely restricting their choices, they had decided to drop the "any CGI animation" part. What they really object is the use of 3D CGI animation, especially "tasteless" 3D CGI animation. They would not mind 2D CGI, as long as it is decent and is irrelevant to the film.

Uh... okay. No 3D. Nothing "tasteless", but 2D is okay so long as it's well done and irrelevant... I'm not even sure I know what "2D" cgi IS. Are we talking actual animation, like Nemo? Or are we talking background effects, like added smoke to a scene or something?

I don't really see how THIS stance is a whole lot LESS limiting...but whatever floats their boat. :)

I have some friends, who are quite traditionalists and refuse to watch films that contains any 3D CGI animation.
They'll watch color? What sell outs! :D

Sergio is right, challenge them to view Finding Nemo, Toy Story, Toy Story 2, even Jimmy Neutron.
