One of the best films ever made and i do have the laserdisc box set which is the only way i can see this great film. I think it's the most important blu-ray release of the year!

I hope this gets a U.S. release---were things cleared Coppola for this? I know one of the reasons we have not seen it here in recent decades was a dispute about the rights. Seeing NAPOLEON at the Kennedy Center with a full symphony orchestra is one of high points of my filmgoing experience.

If there isn't a U.S. release, all the more reason to invest in a region free player.

Great news! I've never seen (heard) it wth the Carl Davis score. Should be interesting.

I saw this cut when it played in Oakland with Carl Davis conducting. The high point of my movie going career, and I remember my first movie experience in 1954.

I speculate that this will be a region B release as are all (?) BFI releases. Invest in an all-region player. This will be the top release of 2016!

Wow, I saw the headline of this thread and I thought, not only did he get off the island to make a comeback but now he's actually come back from the dead! Was certainly going to give the guy an 'A' for effort.

The news about the film is excellent too.

Meanwhile, there is yet ANOTHER restoration underway at the Cinemateque Francaise, utilizing materials not made available to Brownlow and co-produced by Coppola, that is said to be even longer. The more the merrier, I say, though it is a shame that they did not invite Brownlow's participation, as it has been his life's work to restore the film -- and Gance's reputation -- to the world.

From the article linked by Sean:

"This edition of the film is being prepped for worldwide release, with Carmine Coppola’s score from the early 1980s accompanying, and a home video release expected, presumably one semi self-distributed by Coppola via American Zoetrope, if not one of the more notable boutique specialists in the area."

So, a British version overseen by Kevin Brownlow with a Carl Davis score, and an American release overseen by Costa-Gavras with Carmine Coppola's score - makes me think I'll be getting both versions. I first saw the film live with Carmine Coppola conducting the orchestra, so that version is sort of ingrained in my mind.
