This is a huge event. While I can't make it (no way to justify the travel), I'm hoping this gets enough buzz to come to more cities. I attended a lecture by Brownlow at Emory, which was fantastic. He played clips from the various editions of the film, ranging from his original 9.5mm reels, the 17.5mm print, the awkward 1930s talkie conversion, as well as parts from the complete version. He did confirm that there is not any video edition in the works, so anyone within a state's travel would be crazy to miss this.

My original post here regarding the absence of a DVD/Blu-ray release of NAPOLEON was critical of Francis Coppola, and Robert Harris was kind enough to correct me. I have taken his advice and removed my comments. In their place, however, I would love to see us informed by someone in the know who has serious factual information about why this film is seemingly in DVD/Blu-ray limbo, so that, when we see rumors and speculation such as that I inadvertently passed along, we will know it for what it us. The screen, as seen in the image, appears to have been set up for a Powerpoint presentation.


The width for Napoleon will be approximately 85 feet.

At last! I was lucky enough to see this in London (UK) in 2004 (thoughts here) and would seriously consider flying from London to see it again, if I wasn't already booked up on a snowboarding holiday. I urge anyone with a love of cinema to consider checking this out. I just hope it sells out and gets another showing within this decade.

You all do know NAPOLEON isn't the only orchestra plus organ with silent film show in upcoming weeks. For instance, I'm performing at the organ together with with the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra for the 1920 Douglas Fairbanks silent film adventure THE MARK OF ZORRO on April 19 & 20 in Indianapolis at the local art museum, and then over to the grand Wurlitzer theatre pipe organ in Buffalo for accompanying Lon Chaney in PHANTOM OF THE OPERA playing the 1925 original score by G. Hinrichs and M. Winkler at Shea's Buffalo movie palace together with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra on Sunday, April 22.
