I also love the studio version done for the Last Waltz sessions, which features 'Pops' Staples and the Staple Singers, but the original is the classic

I couldn't tell you any of their songs, but I did see Stabbing Westward in concert 4+ years ago when they opened for Depeche Mode in Orlando.

There's an absolutely craptacular cover of The Weight at the end of Igby Goes Down.
It's by Travis, I think.

One of the better recent covers of The Weight was by Shannon Curfman, a youngster who put out a very decent blues/rock album and then disappeared.

When Robbie Robertson appeared on SNL several years ago he covered it with Aaron Neville and Bruce Hornsby, if I recall correctly. That was fun.

The Staple Singers did the very best cover, IMHO.
