This thread is meant as an ongoing record for movies which are released on DVD in a version altered from the initial theatrical run. This goes for both image and soundtrack and the list includes all regions. P&S titles are not included here, and of course bootlegs are not included as well.
Please add your entries, and hopefully we will have a complete and developing list.
This thread is not a discussion of whether a particular edit is good or bad, it's purpose is to merely state the edits made to certain movies and their dvd's.

Continual edits will be made to include all entries. Last inclusion post #22.

The following types of edits will be recognized:
Alteration: An artistic change to a movie, such as an improved special effect. Can also be a change in cutting.
Addition: Scene or part of scene extended.
Subtraction: Scene or part of scene deleted.
Censorship: A change due to censorship concerns rather than artistic values.

The Air Taxi Sequence was part of The Phantom Menace.

Also, the changes in the DVD version of Attack of the Clones are
[*]Anakin's confession sequence has been extended slightly.[*]Boba Fett's backpack has some flashes and sparks added after being trampled by the Reek.[*]Padme's "Yes" is changed to "Uh-huh", after falling from the transport[*]We get a closeup of Anakin's mechanical hand in the final scene. This was present in the digitally projected version too, so it may or may not count.[/list]

Actually, the closeup was in the print theatrical version. The alteration in the digital version and the DVD is that Padme takes Anakin's hand in hers.

We can add to the list the following titles:

Superman (Donner, 1978)
Alterations: revised sound effects track, score track, 8 minutes of additional scenes

Close Encounters of the Third Kind (Spielberg, 1977, 1980)
Alterations: re-edited footage throughout the film, SE ending included in outtakes section

As for TPM, I have the original theatrical cut on VHS and can verify that Lucas did not include the extended air taxi sequence as part of the theatrical version. It was included for the slightly extended version on the DVD.

Who Framed Roger Rabbit (Zemeckis, 1988)
Alteration: early in the movie, the brief clip where Baby Herman's middle finger appears as he goes under the woman's skirt is airbrushed out. However, the original theatrical trailer is included as an Easter egg on the DVD, and it clearly shows Baby Herman's middle finger in the trailer.

Star Trek: The Motion Picture (Wise, 1979)
Alterations throughout! Revised opening intro sequence, revised main and end title credits sequence, new and revised CGI shots, additional footage from the TV version, trims to original theatrical version that appear in the outtakes section

Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (Meyer, 1991)
Alterations: Operation Retrieve discussion, torpedo bay sequence, the "Scooby-Doo" reveal at the end
New alterations for the CE DVD: additional insert clips of Cartwright, Chang, and Nanclus three-quarters of the way through the film

Das Boot (Peterson, 1980's)
Alterations: 60+ minutes of footage taken from the original TV miniseries restored to the film

JFK (Stone, 1992)
Alterations: 20 minutes of footage restored to the film

Last of the Mohicans (1992)

Several changes, including the exclusion of the Clannad song, some deleted/inserted dialog, and removal of graphically violent shots.

Sorry about the Star Wars entries, my mix up... No P&S titles, I believe there are other threads for that.
Included new entries in the first post.

Star Trek: TMP has never been issued on DVD prior to the Director's Edition in 2001. Only the Director's Edition is the sole DVD release of TMP.

I thought the Lion King had it's original theatrical print on it in addition to the SE?

The original cut of E.T. is available on DVD. It is on the 2nd disc of the 2-disc release. The SE - 20th Anniversary edition is on the 1st disc of the 2-disc release with several changes.

Luc Besson's THE BIG BLUE is only available on DVD in the longer, international cut with Eric Serra's score. The US theatrical release and VHS release was a shorter version with a (far far superior, in my opinion) Bill Conti score and has never been released on DVD. Since Conti's score for it is one of my favorites, I've always been disappointed by that.

Revenge Of The Nerds - phone number removed

The Program - scene removed

I believe one of the Scary Movie films were altered to remove a line about Gwyneth Paltrow.

Wasn't there also a film with a line removed about Jack Palance committing suicide?

If I'm not mistaken, all 4 Highlander movies have been released on DVD in versions different from what was shown in theaters.

Also, Any Given Sunday had a few additional minutes reinserted by Oliver Stone for the DVD.

Are we limiting this list to Region 1? If not, then Last of the Mohicans should be left off since the theatrical cut is available overseas(albeit with PAL speedup).
