Star Trek: Enterprise Season 1: Fallen Hero.

Where T'Pol pleads with Captain Archer not to turn Ambassador V'Lar over to the Mezzarites. It was a very touching episode.

The birth of the modern cliffhanger on the Dallas episode titled "A House Divided".
At the end of this glorious episode, J.R. Ewing is shot by an unknown assailant which would go on to stir up public debate like no other show had done before.
An audience of over 90 million tuned in to "Who Done It?" the following fall to finally witness the details of the crime.
Ever since this date, many shows have copycatted the cliffhanger angle to keep viewers tuning in to their show the following season.

Is that the one where Sam can buy back the bar for a dollar and he doesn't quite have enough change? That was a great, post-Diane, episode. Ted Danson really did a great job there.

Six Feet Under's finale, "Everyone's Waiting". That final five-minute sequence...

Close runners would include the ER episodes "On the Beach" (Mark Greene's final episode) and "Love's Labour Lost" (Bradley Whitford gives a stunning performance).
