Another thread I was involved in brought up the freezing you cables and running your wire through a sandbox tweak. I have heard a number of other odd tweaks that may or may not make a difference.

What are the oddest tweaks you have heard of in someones system?

Haha!

Sounds like you had an encounter with Richard Patrick, or Thread Killer King, or whatever new name he has these days.

He is the KING of freezing EVERYTHING in his system..plus DVD's CD's.

I guess another silly sounding tweak is raising your speaker wire off the floor with pricy (at times) devices to make for a "better soundstage" etc...

:)

Best one recently was the little postage stamp thingy that you put on your CD/DVD player while playing a CD you want to improve and it will permanently "improve" that particular CD.

My god, there is so much foolishness out there, it's hard to know where to begin.

Mpingo discs
Shakti Stones
The Bedini Clarifier
Various beads that you put on your electronics
Marking the edge of CD's with a green pen
Using a special pen and writing positive things on some kind of paper and sticking it to your equipment
Orienting your equipment to take advantage of positive energy flows a la feng shui
Power cords
Treating your CD's or DVD's with special liquids although cleaning them isn't such a bad idea
Putting 'Beaks' on your speakers (thank Totem for this)
Room tuning with blocks of wood (a few jerks are selling this)
Placing bags of sand or other heavy objects on your equipment or speakers
Special outlets
Demagnetizing devices for CD's (Furetech)
Gold plated fuses
Audiophile (audiophool?) capacitors, resistors
Demagnetizing CD's
Demagnetizing vinyl
Break in discs
Break in for that matter
Ultra pure copper
Shining light on cables and interconnects
Virtually all isolation devices that go under equipment
Heavy gauge romex
Replacing the plates on the backs of speakers with special wiring
Things like Eichmann Bullet Plugs
A lot of products from PSAudio

I'm sure I've missed a few hundred.

Hey, that used to work.

Wasn't too good for the record, though.

Yeah, that wasn't a tweak! That was to compensate for lack of tension on the tone arm. On some records your tone arm would skip grooves. Putting a coin (or something similar) on it added enough downward force to keep it where it should be!

*Note, this only worked with pre '64 silver coins and it helped if you rubbed them with olive oil and rubbing alcohol first. ;)

Surely this is going to get him in trouble with the FCC as his neighbourhood's biggest source of RFI, even if he does "damp" them with a substance which lacks measurable electromagnetic properties.

Also.....

"cooking" the cables

puting the amp/integrated/receiver on the top of the rack lowers THD

spraying interconnects, laser thingys, optical cables ends, etc with compressed nitrogen gas before connecting them

attaching lead weights to the back of the speaker

mounting a glass prism upside-down above the listening position

wait a minute...

What was this from? Although it may give some vertical dispersion of the sound-stage...
