Another of the outstanding current crop of French directors, he came to my attention with The Girl on the Bridge and had previous international successes like Ridicule and Monsiuer Hire. He has continued to make several noteworthy films since.

*1. The Girl On The Bridge - A (Marvelously acted, beautifully filmed romance between a down-on-his-luck circus knife-thrower and a young woman with a death wish)
*2. Intimate Strangers - A- (One of my favorite films of last year starring two of my favorite French actors - Fabrice Luchini and Sandrine Bonnaire)
3. The Widow of St. Pierre - B+ (A moving period drama starring two more favorites - Daniel Autueil and Juliette Binoche)

4. Monsieur Hire - B+
5. Man on the Train - B- (An old retiree and a gangster meet by chance and are fascinated with each other's lives. An intriguing idea with some marvelous moments, but flounders towards the end.)
6. Ridicule - B-
7. My Best Friend - B-
