I can remember when I saw "Pulp Fiction", I knew I had seen the look of Samuel L. Jackson and John Travolta before. Then I remembered "Straight To Hell". I think Tarantino lifted their characters images straight out of this movie--wild hair, dark suits and carrying a mysterious suitcase.

I've seen a portion of Kurosawa: The Last Emperor and thought it was excellent. It got into the darker sides of his personality. Would love to see the whole thing sometime.
