Whatever happened to THE UNDYING MONSTER, CHANDU THE MAGICIAN, THE LODGER, HANGOVER SQUARE, and MAN HUNT that were mentioned as Fox's Halloween dvds in another thread?

DVDPlanet have got it wrong. They are not the new Midnite Movies, they are the Fox releases.

The confusion has probably come from the fact that they do look like the old Midnite Double Features (or at least the titles do)...and also, it is now Fox who will be distributing the actual MGM Midnite titles ... which will probably be single title discs..

Confused? You will be...

That is a boxset AFAIK, and may be due for release a little later, so it may be announced on DVD-Drive-In later also.

The titles didn;t strike me as being particularly "halloween" so it may be marketed as something else.

This is the Halloween release I'm looking forward to the most, along with Witchfinder General.

Wow! Great stuff!

I had no idea that Roger Corman collection was coming. It's about time we got quality transfers of some of these films. BTW, the cover scan looks like a shrink-wrapped package (look at the edges.) I am a bit surprised that a September release is ready to go in mid-July.

If you are expecting MGM/Fox/Sony to stump up for brand-new restorations and transfers onto newly authored and mastered DVD's I think you are going to be disappointed.

The Price/Corman boxsets are, almost inevitably, just a cheap (for the studio) repackaging exercise, re-using existing stuff. They'll just duplicate some more of the old Midnite Movie versions and stick 'em in a box I'm afraid!

Still excellent news that Fox have, in effect (and most unusually) adopted another studio's "brand" for their own releases. These are a continuation of MGM's Midnite Doubles, the only difference being the Fox logo replacing the Lion. Of course it helps that Fox are now distributing MGM, but the September doubles shouldn;t be confused with MGM - they are nothing to do with MGM at all.

Hopefuly the true MGM Midnites will follow in October, keeping the cover design.

Yeah, I'm sure you are right on the money, Richard, but since I don't have most of the titles in this set, I will pony up for it when it comes out.

Does anyone have a COMPLETE LIST of all the Midnite Movies double-features, singles and reissues released on DVD?

One more question...

In the recent 'Frankie & Annette MGM Movie Legends Collection' how are the films repackaged inside? Are they all issued as single features per disc in separate keepcases and do they feature the same artwork as the individual Midnite Movies releases?

Just wondering if I should go that route rather than the MM for these flicks. I just want to be sure that I'm avoiding some digipack or awkward packaging and floating Frankie and Anette head artwork. :)

All I know about the Frankie & Annette set is that the transfers are the same. I don't know about disc configuration or packaging.

thanks.

Time to revive this thread.... :) Does anyone know where our hopes for BURN WITCH BURN, MASTER OF THE WORLD, and QUARTERMASS XPERIMENT now rest. There are very few MIDNITE MOVIES that have not made it to discs; and these are great fun!!

I really want THE QUATERMASS XPERIMENT too. I'd also like to see THE BLACK SLEEP (1956) released as well.

I would love to see Futureworld released as well. It is a film that in many ways is superior to the original Westworld.

I have to disagree; I think FUTUREWORLD is an unworthy and saccharin sequel to WESTWORLD, which was a terrific scifi movie. I don't think there's ever been a weaker and more unsatisfying excuse to re-use a character from an original film (Yul Brynner)!

That said, I'd still like to have FUTUREWORLD on DVD anyway.

From what I learn over at Classic Horror Film Board, MGM has rights to NOTHING BUT THE NIGHT, the only film produced by Christopher Lee´s company Charlemagne Productions. Maybe they could pair it with DARK PLACES, starring Lee and Cushing.

TWINS OF EVIL and VAMPIRE CIRCUS are also with MGM I hear.

2011 is the Vincent Price Centenary Year, right? Why not a Vincent Price Centenary Midnite Movie Collection, toplining fully remastered versions of THEATRE OF BLOOD and AN EVENING WITH EDGAR ALLAN POE. Someone
posted, I think on HTF, that EVENING is/was available in much better
quality than what was released on DVD.

Also, how abut a vault search for COMEDY OF TERRORS, the version
before the producers re-cut it and added speeded-up farce?
