We have an air plant on our kitchen window sill but had no idea it would bloom. Weird little sucker. :)

These were taken with a Canon 7Dii and a Tamron 60mm macro at f/2.8, 1/250s, ISO 100. I used a monopod to stabilize things, since there was no room for a tripod around the kitchen sink.

I've been thinking about how to impart a better sense of scale to macro shots, especially when something is unfamiliar to most people. In this case, the ceramic container for the plant is only 3 inches in diameter. Ideally there would be something natural to include in the shot to provide the scale, as opposed to just sticking a penny in the shot. :D

I fixed the paths, but we'll see if they last. Google Photos doesn't make it simple to get the image paths...

I think it's a fence or screen door.

I was just kidding, haha...

I bought that same lens a couple of years ago for my Canon bodies, but I haven't really used it much. With Springtime hitting around here and things starting to bloom, I need to find some time to play with the Siggy.

I've been using it now-and-then (most often at 1.2x crop on my D800)... but not for macros though. It pretty much replaced my older Nikon 85 f/1.8 prime that I used a lot on DX bodies.

It's definitely a very nice -- and affordable -- lens... though mine seems to have a little play mounted on my D800...

Mine replaced a Canon EF 135mmL f/2, and I have used the Sigma for a few indoor family gatherings, too. It seems to fit tight mounted on my Canon 5D3 -- I haven't tried it on the 7D2.

I've never used that particular lens. I did micrography back in college, and when I worked for Minolta we had a similar macro that was something like 2-5x.

That lens must be a telephoto. Yeah, a lens can be a wide angle telephoto, since telephoto doesn't mean what it's generally thought to mean. I can explain, if anyone is interested. That's the only way it could be a 25mm at 5x with a 1.6" working distance. [EDIT] I think I didn't phrase that quite right. I'm still digging through the cobwebs to visualize the optics of the lens.

BTW, the claim that is has greater depth of field because it's a wide angle is false, in the realm of using it as a macro, which is the only function of this lens. Again, I can try to explain that, though it's kind of difficult to put into words.

I do have a non-shift version of THIS Laowa macro lens. It's fun to try and find uses for it. the non-shift version was only $150, so not a big bite for something to play around with.
