Been a little quiet around my favorite area of the forum
because I am out in Denver attending CEDIA. Hope all of you
have been watching our video coverage.

In any event, I had a very interesting day yesterday.

Had my iPhone in a case that hooks to my belt, as I always do.
Well, amongst the thousands of people that brushed by me on
the show floor, one decided to pick-pocket me. All I know is
that by the time I returned to my hotel, my iPhone was no
    longer in its case.

I hopped in a cab and took a ride to the nearest Denver mall.
Went to the Apple store and dropped $400 on a new phone.
Fortunately, the price dropped this week. Unfortunately, in
the past few months I dropped $1k on iPhones.

The activation of my phone took 5 minutes. I was easily able
to transfer my number to the new phone, making the stolen
one obsolete. The stolen phone also had a pass code that should
keep the thief busy for a while trying to crack.

Anyhow, just thought I'd post my sad story. Now, I have to run
and get back to work here at CEDIA.

Sorry to hear your bad luck. Damn thieves. Don't let them spoil what looks to be a really good event over there (the videos look great - I assume they're all done in iMovie on your MacBook Pro).

Maybe you can claim on an insurance policy? Here in the UK most home contents insurance covers you for a couple of grand of goods away from the home.

Ron, I'm very sorry to hear your iPhone was stolen. [IMG] Glad you're back up and running so easily (if costly). And hopefully you can take advantage of the $100 credit Apple's offering to mitigate the cost a bit more.

Sorry to hear about that Ron - sounds like your phone was hanging on the bag like a grape ready to be picked.
The good news is your ability to bounce back and keep going. Don't let the thief steal your mental time after the fact.

Wow, that does suck. I'll be sure to keep my iphone in my pocket. (btw, just ordered a 4gb cause of the tempting price. I don't really care about the cost, but didn't really want to play with one of my own trying txt and no mm at the minimum $500 price. Now, I play.)

Hopefully someone finds it and turns it in.

Is it possible that the phone just dropped out of the case on it's own?

    Mike,

That is possible, though the phone does sit snuggly inside.

The problem with the case is that it is a slide-out from top.
I am going to go with a FORTTE as it has a top cover that
prevents anything from slipping or being pulled out.

Ron, that truly sucks, especially since it happened at a tech event. I would expect better from fellow HT enthusiasts.

I wonder if Apple/AT&T could track the phone to its new "owner" (who will likely not be the thief but some poor schmuck who thinks he's getting a deal on a used iPhone) when reactivation is attempted??

They can track it but likely won't unless the police make them do so.

I wonder if the person who has it will unlock it so it can be used with T-Mobile so it can’t be tracked.
