Definately too early since a lot of good films are coming out Nov. and Dec.

1(*) Return of the King (since I believe it'll be at least as good as FOTR/TTT)
    2. Finding Nemo
    3. Open Range
    4. Master and Commander
    5. Pirates of the Caribbean
    6. Bend It Like Beckham
    7. Whale Rider
    8. Lost in Translation
    9. School of Rock
10.(*)Last Samurai (haven't seen it yet but I have a feeling it will rate higher).

Revised: Since I just came back from seeing Master and Commander and for some reason I thought Bend It Like Beckham came out the year before.

    Hulk
    X-2
    Gods and Generals
    Terminator 3

Are "Irreversible" and "City of God" this year or last year? I saw them last year, but I think they count this year, so here goes:

    City of God
    The Missing
    21 Grams
    Irreversible
    Finding Nemo
    Open Range
    Mystic River
    School of Rock
    Whale Rider
    Bubba Ho Tep

I haven't seen "Station Agent" yet. I still need to see RotK, Big Fish, In America, Cold Mountain, House of Sand & Fog, and Last Samurai. All contenders.

    I don't feel like listing 10 movies...

But nobody has mentioned "Runaway Jury"

    Interesting.

I haven't seen too too many movies in the theaters this year. In fact, I've only seen 16. Some that were released this year I caught on DVD. I think I'll just take the same route as George See and list my top 3.

    1. Kill Bill: Volume 1
    2. Lost in Translation
    3. Finding Nemo

Again, tough to name ten at this point. So far, I have loved:

    1. X2
    2. Hulk
    3. Master and Commander
    4. Love Actually
    5. Lost in Translation
    6. Kill Bill
    7. Bruce Almighty
    8. Finding Nemo
    9. Freddy vs. Jason[/list=1]

Something tells me Return of the King will be added to that list very soon.

I don't think its right to complile a top ten list yet...there's a month of films left! Plus...its not very objective to put films on your list if you have not seen them...no matter how good you may think they are going to be:

For the record...no one put OWNING MAHOWNEY on their list...a wonderful painful movie experience about an implosive individual and his obsessive tunnel vision with his own gambling addiction. Phillip Seymor Hoffman was amazing...the best low-key performance of the year...next to Bill Murray's, of course.

Nice to see the witty satire A MIGHTY WIND make one list, as well as the magnificent OPEN RANGE (I loved how wonderfully sparse, yet evocative the characters and dialogue were).

I refuse to make a true top ten list this early, but, in random order...here are my best that I have seen this year:

    OPEN RANGE
    LOST IN TRANSLATION
    MASTER AND COMMANDER
    A MIGHTY WIND
    OWNING MAHOWNEY
    PHONE BOOTH
    BEND IT LIKE BECKUM (spelling?)
    MATCHSTICK MEN
    LOVE ACTUALLY
THE KID STAYS IN THE PICTURE (was released in 2002...but did not see the light of day where I live until this year...thus...I list it here)

    1. Love Actually
    2. Lost In Translation
    3. Finding Nemo
    4. X2: X-Men United
    5. School of Rock
    6. Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl
    7. Shattered Glass
    8. Kill Bill: Volume 1
    9. Thirteen
    10. Open Range

There have been several movies I expected to see in my top ten that fell short (the Matrix sequels, Mystic River) and several I didn't expect to make my list that ended up placing very highly (Love Actually, School of Rock). It's been a strange year at the movies.
