Not a one hit wonder. If all you know of James is "Laid", you're missing out. These guys released a couple of terrific albums since then, but I got them all from the UK (don't know if they ever came out in the U.S.). I love these:

Whiplash (1997)
James: The Best Of... (1998)
Millionaires (1999)
Pleased To Meet You (2001)

Jean,

Being a big Extreme fan, I knew all about the Cherone incarnation, but chose to ignore it. Van Halen III is simply a horrible album, no two ways about it. It's amazing the quality work Gary did with Extreme and the quality work Eddie did with both Sammy and Dave, yet together the work they produced is atrocious.

Personally I don't think talent has anything to do with hits. I would call James a one hit wonder irregardless of how many great albums they had, simply because they had only 1 hit (in the US at least). Look at a band like Wilco, they are like a no hit wonder :) but that certainly doesn't say anything about their talent.

What? No one thinks Britney Spears should be on their lists?

That's the biggest cheat I've seen so far! (I thought of combining Husker Du and Sugar with my Bob Mould listing, but decided against it.)

The bottle and fresh horses is one of the best albums i've ever heard, they were really close to making my list.
Not living anywhere's near AZ as i see you do, i've only caught them live once and that was an opening slot for a festival and they were plagued with technical difficultys. Roger Clyne is definitly one of the better song writers out there right now.

Does "bands" mean pop/rock? I like a lot of the bands being listed, and most are undeniably classic artists, but if I were to compile a list, it would not have any well-known artists at all.
