Laid is a great record. Did they ever collaborate with Brian Eno again? What happened to these guys?

Angelo, LAID is a terrific song. Most of the forum proably never heard it. I heard it on College Radio, definitely the alternative sound. I too had high hopes for James but they seem to have ended up a one-hit wonder...

Haha I feel like such a loser cause everybody here is a lot older then me. I'm 15 and here are my top ten:

1. Beatles

3. ACDC
4. Queen
5. Jimi Hendrix
6. Led Zepplin
7. Guns and Roses

10. War

Yeah the funny thing is I don't even like Rap but Jurassic 5 is so original and funky. I was hooked, but nothing can top the beatles.

Blasphemy! I bet most of the forum HAS heard that song, they just don't know it by the title. After all, the guy kinda wails out the LAAAAIIIIIDDDD in the song.

Everybody knows that she only comes when she's on top!;)

I'm partial to "Born Of Frustration" myself. James is a great and underrated band, but they don't place anywhere near my top ten. I can't put mine in any particular order, either:

- Uncle Tupelo
- The Tragically Hip
- The Connells
- Bob Mould
- Guster
- The Afghan Whigs
- New Order
- The Sheila Divine
- K's Choice
- Son Volt
- William Hung

Not including solo artists, and in no particular order, as it depends almost entirely on my mood:

-The Rolling Stones
-The Beatles
-Metallica
-The Clash (London Calling might be my pick for best album)
-Led Zeppelin
-Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band
-Elvis Costello and the Attractions
-Bad Religion
-Simon and Garfunkel (can two people comprise a band?)

Can't really think of a tenth.

As far as Laid, I was actually referring to the album, not the single (which, I agree is a great song and which, I'm sure, many HTFers would recognize even if they don't know the title and artist). The album is terrific--elements of U2, the Waterboys, the Alarm, with something else entirely added in--and was produced by Brian Eno. The track "Laid" is only partially indicative of the strength of the whole set, and I'd strongly urge you to give the whole thing a listen someday.

Speaking of the Waterboys, they've made a couple of lists already! Gotta dig out Fisherman's Blues now... :D

As a representative of the rest of the board i can say I do know the song Laid, and I remember seeing James set at woodstock 94, I too thought he'd go on to have more then 1 hit.

Top 10 bands in no particular order and subject to change.

R.E.M.
Radiohead
Fiona Apple
The Brilliant Green
Brian Wilson/Beach Boys (smile coming out soon :D )
Velvet Underground
They Might be Giants
The Doors
Natalie Merchant/10k maniacs
Vanessa Mae

I love way too many bands this list being limited to only 10 is just not fair at all :)
