So, do I need a new blu ray player to play these?

Yes, you would need to have a UHD BD player in order to play UHD BD discs.

Ah, but your receiver must also support HDCP 2.2, an issue I just faced with the Amazon Fire TV, which does not have a digital audio output and will only output UHD content over a HDCP 2.2 compliant throughput. My Marantz SR5008 receiver that is less than 2 years old only supports 4K pass thru at 30Hz and cannot handle 60Hz. Connecting the Fire TV caused major handshake issues on all devices that could only be overcome by doing a factory reset to the receiver and disconnecting the Fire TV.

The good news is that Samsung's UHD Blu-ray player apparently will have 2 HDMI outputs (much like their first gen 3D players), allowing users to use one for video directly to the TV and the other for audio thru the receiver.

A 4k TV or projector will also help.

For viewing at native 4K yes, but UHD BD players can also downscale 4K content to 1080p, and it should also look slightly better than the native 1080p version. So if you don't want to upgrade to a 4K display yet, just buy the UHD BD player for now.

Twin HDMI outputs confirmed, here is the back panel from the Samsung UHD BD player's manual:

Turns out for me it is a good thing they have two HDMI ports. Turns out that after getting my Samsung 85" 4K TV calibrated that when you turn on HDR Color it messes up the baseline calibration. So I need use two different HDMI ports. (HDMI 4 for normal 4K and lower, HDMI 1 for 4K HDR)
