I agree, review the Directors Cut... BUT if you could compare select scenes to the Theatrical Cut that would be awesome!
Thanks,
Chris.

Agreed...it makes me nervous about E.T.!!! I can see it now...the new SE gets 5.1 DD and DTS...while the "original" cut without the CRAPPY and DISTRACTING CGI effects gets 2.0 DD mastered at 192 kbps with tons of extra crammed on the disc
Wurd on the street (from another post on the HTF that I can't find right now) is that ET will be released in 2 editions. 1 2 disc SE with the new version and some extras, and a 3 disc Ultimate Edition with each cut on it's own disc and a totally loaded 3rd disc.

Ron:

Review the DC, however just look at the other (not in any depth at all) - just make a quick check of the other transfer so see if it's as sub-par as reviewed by others.

Don't spend a whole lot of time at all.

Thanks!

Really, it depends on time. I usually just
don't have the time to watch a film more than
once. This is also the reason why I don't do
commentary reviews very often.
I admire Peter Bracke at DVDFILE. Not only
does he have the time to do in-depth reviews
(it is his only job), but he writes very well.
I, on the other hand, am a one-man-show here
who has a normal day job and a forum to run on
top of doing about 5 reviews a week.
I have only seen Legend once in my life
when it was released to VHS in the 80s. Unless
the Director's Cut indicate where particular scenes
have been added, I may not know where or what these
scenes are.

Ron, review the director's cut. That's the version Ridley

puts forward and worked on to deliver THE ultimate version.

After reading the review again, I think Peter Bracke is missing

one import issue: it was only the U.S. theatrical version that

"were so mucked with to appease mainstream audiences"!

Everbody else got the initial, slightly longer, theatrical release with the

wonderful Jerry Goldsmith score.

So, I guess that the director's cut will be an expanded

and more fine tuned version of the initial theatrical version.

At least I hope so, otherwise I need to get the

R2 version of initial theatrical version as well..

I've never seen Legend, and I was considering purchasing it because of the awesome sounding DVD, but I will not buy it because of the crappy case. Call it petty, but that terrible case has prevented me from buying Meet Joe Black. I'm sick of these studio's "new ideas" like Paramount moving the banner and Universal and their crappy cases. At least Legend is OAR.

Oscar, there is no link. The html address is blank. Remember, when using the http:// button, you put the URL in the second dialog box. The caption goes in the first box.

Great news! Shame there isn't an isolated Goldsmith score on the director's cut.:frowning:
trivia: on the old UK version you don't really see Darkness' face until he steps thru the mirror half way thru the film, but in the US version you see his horny visage right at the start of the film, wonder which way the directors cut went? I prefer the UK cut, suddenly seeing his evil mug coming thru the mirror was a far more effective entrance.

Since both the goldsmith and the tangerine dream soundtracks are available on CD (with linear PCM sound) why would we care?

The goldsmith CD is VERY extensive. No way I'd listen to some 2.0 DD compressed audio on some "music only track" on the DVD.

The Director's Cut is like the European version...Darkness does not appear until he pops through the mirror, which has also been altered to be more powerful. However, the horned one does offer a lot more voiceover until he appears in the new Director's Cut.
