The Laserdisc has tuned over to Side 6 now so this side should play faster for you.

Never mind about the test, Are you going to buy a Pioneer laserdisc player? Plenty of them on ebay. ;)

"Don't let yourself get attached to bluray you are not willing to walk out on in 30 seconds flat if you feel the Laserdisc heat around the corner." :P

Bought this new around time of its release late 1996 then sold it for the region 2 DVD a few years later. Well I wanted HEAT again, so bought it brand new again sealed and at lower cost than I paid around November 1996.

"Cause she's got a great ass... and you got your head all the way up it! Ferocious, aren't I?" The bluray has the line Ferocious, aren't I?" cut from the film, I'll keep te region 1 DVD that I also have the laserdisc, I can't stand films being edited and cut up for bluray sales.

Nice stage bass and LFE.1 as the train rumbles by and passes over to surround arrays, just like being at the cinema,

Yes Andy i see your point of view, the added halo's make the dvd edition of Heat look so much better than the appalling blu ray.

Edge enhancement is a pet hate of mine, too many dvd's have it, i don't know if laserdiscs have it but lower resolution than dvd so maybe some do, you can tell me, as for the blu ray of Heat, i have it, shame they cut that ferocious line out, use your one as a frisbee, just be careful or it could be used as a lethal weapon, a bit like the feral kid from Mad Max II uses in that movie. :P :D

Blimey, you don't like your pet called Halo the cat? Good gosh, what is the world coming too?

Coss, she's got a great halo ass. And you got your eye candy eyes all the way up it.

"Ferocious, aren't I?" :P

When I think halos, is something that comes out in me.

My cat, which you can see a snippet of in my avatar, is called Cleo, short for Cleopatra, of course being a Queen she likes the best things in life and to that effect the best technology, no dvd or laserdisc is good enough for Cleo, she needs her Sheba Dome prime cuts of chicken or gets grumpy and she will not tolerate anything less than blu ray when it comes to watching Cats & Dogs the special edition. ( the cats win in that one ) I have to agree with my cat, or get a nasty scratch or two, cats are always right. :3dglasses:

TITANIC THX laserdisc Dolby Stereo Digital AC-3. Very nice.

TITANICTHXLaserdiscDolbyStereoDigitalAC-31-1.jpg

Laserdisc direct capture recoded a few mins onto DVD-RW to grab the capture.

TITANIC vs the dreadful colour of TITANIC 3D cinema digital re-issue. It was almost like seasick green at the cinema with some dodgy distracting opening. To think I seen the film 14 times and even projected it at Warner village 12 screen, at Bristol.

TITANICTHXLaserdisc2-1.jpg

Laserdisc.

TITANICTHXbluray1.jpg

Bluray if you can't see the odd circles around the image on large projected home cinema screen you need to get an eye test. This stood out like sore thumb on 30 feet wide screen even on 28" CRT Sony TV.

Bluray, OMG the colour is been messed around with on a computer.

TITANICTHXLaserdisc3.jpg

Laserdisc I see how bright and shinny the format is.

Bluray is like a xenon lamp that is fading. James Cameron needs to go SpecSavers.

Yes, you won't see this on the end of your bluray disc its been removed and replaced with a 3d logo I recall when seeing at, empire tower park, screen 6.

The "odd circles" are banding and it's likely a display issue but since i have yet to watch it on blu i won't commit totally to it being banding, now if it's the 3D edition then it's because of the brightening up of the image, it shouldn't be there on the 2D edition.

No your wrong again. I guess your heart doesn't go on, then without laserdisc.

If its a display WRONG then it wouldn't show up twice!! Once at professional digital cinema (coughing) and again on seasick bluray.

Save up your comments to buy a laserdisc player. :P VHS, don't come as clear or has PCM AC-3 dts, extras as well. ;) Think of each word you say is worth £1.00 pound. I think I counted 50 words above so that would be enough for modest Pioneer laserdisc player for starters. :PI recommend a Pioneer DVL-909 its fine player its not the highest order of the players but it would suit your needs. Its duel standard it has A&B disc turn over and AC-3 RF output and digital freeze so you can still frame CLV discs. It even plays DVD as well and there is code you can use to switching it to other regions.

You do know that some cinemas, i dare say many cinemas do not have professional calibrations even though digital projectors need them, displays need re-calibration when the lamp ages, how many cinemas go to the trouble of doing that, i doubt many of them, i have seen banding first hand, it can be made worse if the display contrast or brightness levels are incorrect, even colours being off can make it worse, i know this from personal experience and have a very good meter and software to calibrate my displays.

Now the point i make regarding the image you posted above is that it is banding, this could be in the source they used for the blu ray or it could be related to the display or a bit of both, i couldn't say until i watched the film on blu ray but i will NOT be watching the cropped 3D presentation, i will be viewing the 2D edition, it's banding, animated films can show the issue up well.

This is why i like them to add a bit of dither for CGI animated titles or keep film grain intact for older animated titles because that keeps banding at bay, you will not see banding when dither or film grain is present in the scene and the encode is good.

Now if banding is present on Titanic then my alarm bells go up because the first thing they do to make a 3D conversion is totally de-grain the image, underwater scenes are notorious for showing up banding issues, they should have been more careful to avoid this, it sounds like they did a bad job for that particular scene but of course the display could also be making it worse.

If the basis for the cinema showing was a DCI then yes it could show up at the cinema and again on blu ray and yes a display can make it look worse. Roll on 10 and 12 bit 4K blu ray because banding should become a thing of the past.

Quest For Fire or Quest For Laserdisc. :P

It came nicely packed from the USA.

The scope of the film is nice. The Dolby Stereo matrix has some fairly cool back surround effects.
