WTH? I hope the disc positioning is a picture and not how they're actually positioned in the box.

Studios, please, just put the DVDs in an ordinary box and keep the price low. Thanks.

I take it that there still isn't any word yet about the episode order for Sliders Season 1 (Fox altered the intended order radically) and whether the omitted scene from "The Summer of Love" will be reinstated (explaining how the timer was broken, cut since it made no sense to be stated in the 5th episode). Those issues will help me decide whether I bite the bullet on these disks.

And why are these episodes being released in English 2.0 Mono? My VHS off-air copies are mono because my local Fox affilate didn't broadcast in stereo at the time, but there are Dolby Surround logos at the start of the episodes. I think Universal needs to spend more time presenting the episodes properly instead of making fancy packaging that few people really want.

I was wondering about that, too. I thought a 1995 series would at least be in stereo. Guess I was right.

Does anyone here have a contact at Universal? For $90 you'ld think they would do it right.

Personally, I'd like to buy Sliders, but if they don't care about what they're selling, neither do I. I can only imagine how the show itself will look.

I'm sure that this is just an "artist's conception" positioning, and not how the DVDs will actually sit in the box! :)

Several other Universal shows seem to have been called mono in the press release, but turned out to be Dolby surround. Hopefully that's the case here, too.

Knight Rider 2000 wasn't too bad for a reunion movie. What I alwasy remember most, though, are the scenes of the police cars being destroyed. They were new Berettas all the way through the movie. But, whenever one was destroyed, it was suddenly a Monza.

Guess the budget wasn't too high. :)

Here is a page from the LOST scene in "Summer of Love", explaining about the timer and missing a slide.

This scene explains why the timer functions as a countdown device and also explains the danger of missing the slide. Why was it cut? When Fever was moved to the first episode aired after the Pilot, the scene no longer made sense and was excised. Thanks to Ed Hall for originally posting this on his site.

The dialogue below follows Quinn's escape from the San Francisco loft and the FBI:

REMBRANDT (CONT'D)
Where's the Professor?

As if on cue, Arturo bursts out of the loft,
running after them and trying to hold four
guns at the same time. Scant seconds later,
the Feds also exit the building, sprinting
after him. Arturo spins, dropping three of
the guns and shooting the fourth one in the
air as a warning that gets the Feds to freeze.

Uncomfortable carrying any firearms, he
flings the fourth gun away and resumes
running toward his friends.

ARTURO
Hurry up, get back in the car!

The Feds are scrambling to retrieve their
guns as Quinn, Arturo and Rembrandt hurry
back to the Cadillac.

Rembrandt jumps behind the wheel, Quinn and
Arturo dive into the open back seat -
Copeland and Yenn have retrieved their guns,
they OPEN FIRE. Rembrandt is driving and
ducking, as bullets whiz past the accelerating
purple vehicle.

REMBRANDT
Seems like you two make friends
wherever you go! Why am I not
surprised?!

The Caddy screeches around the corner at
breakneck speed and gets away - for the
moment.

INT. THE CADDY - NIGHT

Arturo is in the front. Quinn in the back;
Rembrandt drives, keeping a careful eye
on the rearview mirror, while bemoaning
his near brush with domesticity.

REMBRANDT
Man, that is the last time I
do a good deed. The Crying Man gave
that woman his all, and look at the
thanks he got.
(to Quinn, in
mirror)
Now, what was that about the
timer?

QUINN
It's badly damaged. We can't open
the gate at will anymore. So the
Professor and I did some
calculating based on The Helix
Spiral --

REMBRANDT
-- Felix who?

QUINN
Helix. It's a ten dimensional
form of Witten's index theorem.

REMBRANDT
Oh. That.

QUINN
It suggests there will be a single
window of opportunity on each
Earth we visit. A moment in time
when the weakened powers of the
gizmo will still allow us to
access the gate.

ARTURO
The window he's referring to will
be different on each Earth - mere
minutes till it arrives on some,
several months on others.

REMBRANDT
So you're saying we may have to
wait months on some of these
worlds before we can try and get
home again?

ARTURO
Correct. We've re-rigged the
timer to serve as a countdown
device, telling us how long till
the window on each Earth we visit.

REMBRANDT
What if the window comes and goes
and we never access the gate?

ARTURO
I'm afraid it's 29.7 years to the
next opportunity. So that's a
mistake we can not afford. We
must always be sure to be together
at the appointed time... or else.

QUINN
We're lucky we didn't miss the
window on this world.

He shows Rembrandt the timer: it reads 42
MINUTES, 16 SECONDS, and counting.

QUINN (CONT'D)
How far to the commune?

REMBRANDT
About forty-five minutes
(winks)
If we obey the speed limit.

That said, he slams on the accelerator.

I held off on sliders because of the packaging... but I just couldn't wait no longer... I always loved this show and wanted to get the DVD set.

Can anyone that got the set tell me...

just how bad is the packaging...

Has there been any reports of the foam scratching the discs... this is a minor concern of mine after the review at tvshowsondvd.com. :)

I was also concerned.... has anyone noticed the foam wearing making the discs loose in the case?

Does anyone think the price for Sliders will go down?

How has it been selling with such a high price?

I wonder when the 2nd season of KR is going to be released?
I hope the 1st season is selling well enough to ensure the remaining seasons are released !!

I just picked up the Sliders set at DDD for $51.84 (20% off sale). Even at that price I wouldn't call it a bargain, but since S1 and S2 are the only seasons I'm interested in, I decided it was worth having.

Has anyone had a bad experience with the funky disc packaging?

Yes... unfortunately I did. I picked this set up a couple months ago... and I didn't even get completely through the first time of watching the set before the foam in the box started to tear at the slots that holds the discs... plus for some reason the clear half of the case went into the other half instead of over it... causing the foam to bend and tear when sliding the clear cover back into place.

I ended up getting some blank keep cases and printed up my own covers... it is far from pretty... but it does have all the info I need on the covers. It is a shame too... because the original funky packaging... if nothing else... did look cool.

disc 5 of my copy is cracked, but I don't know if that was because of the packaging or just a defect. I bought it off eBay, so I couldn't return it, and I couldn't find any kind of customer service department on Universal's website.
