Brad nails can be left in. They are small enough to not impact sanding. Screws just hold the wood while the glue dries. Unless countersunk, they will get in the way of sanding. I have never seen an enclosure "explode" due to sub pressure and this is using subs like this - . That sub has 3 times the excursion of the JBL.
I've never heard of using that. Polyfil or fiberglass stuffed at 1 pound per cubic foot will slow down the rear wave converting the sound to heat. This tricks the sub into thinking that the enclosure is about 10% larger than what it really is.
