I've been getting an urge to upgrade my 3 year old Sony 50ES receiver. I may be checking myself into the Betty Ford Clinic to help fight the cravings.

I live with a stronger variant of the "upgrade bug"
called the "Euphoric Upgrade Parasite." The parasite,
permanently burrowed into my brain, constantly pushes
me to by new and better electronics gear. When I get new
gear, I reward the parasite with a rush of endorphins, I
get rewarded by getting new stuff, and the cycle repeats.
Frankly, it is a "win-win" situation. Especially, after
I successfully infected my wife with the same Parasite.
But, I do have a nice system.

In the last 2 years I've replaced nearly every piece in my entire system twice (only once for the TV and DVDP)
I'm pretty happy with it as it sits, but I think I've hit on a very inexpensive ($200) way to get an analog direct path from my S9000ES DVDP to my amps, so that I can listen to SACD as it was intended.
Time to increase the software budget...

I want to replace my current Sony 845 receiver with a Denon 3802 and replace my current Sony Speakers with Klipsch's speakers and an SVS sub. I have not had my current stuff for even a year. In June 2000 I purchased a Sony 48" projection tv and in July 2001 I purchased a Toshiba 65H80 HD ready set. I also replaced my Sony B50 SAT receiver to the Toshiba DST-3000, I did not have the Sony receiver for more than 3 months. I have to wait till Jan 2002 to do all this but I see the light at the end of the tunnel and it is only getting brighter.

I'm planning some upgrades as well:
-Replacing my Yamaha RXV496 receiver with the new Yamaha RXV1200 as I want DPLII and DTS-ES. I evaluated in-house the Marantz SR6200 and the Denon 3802 but neither seemed to sound as pleasing to my ears as the Yammie.
-Replacing my Paradigm Monitor 3's (mains) with Paradigm Reference Studio 40's or 60's.

Hmmm, I think I've got a remission underway in my case of this darn bug....
Haven't bought anything since my panny RP91 in June. (replaced my panny a120 DVD)
But a cooling off period was in order as in the prior 18 months I bought:
1. Klipsch THX Home Cinema Speakers
2. Toshiba TP61H95 61" HDTV capable RPTV
3. Technics AX6 receiver with shac500 dd/dts decoder outboard. (SOLD)
4. Onkyo Integra DTR-7 Receiver (THX select)
5. Panny A120 DVD
6. Panny SVHS deck
7. Panny 110 disk cd changer
8. Klipsch La Scala Mains
9. NAD 7130 stereo receiver (FREE) now powering my mains via their main in jacks connected to the pre-outs on the fronts
10. Starchoice (cdn) DBS receiver, with separate HDTV decoder
11. Bang and Olafson Cd player (another freebie now working in the Bedroom system
12. A new (fully rennovated vintage train station) home on 17 acres complete with a 24 by 40 foot living room/dining room that now houses the main HT equipment. (The last upgrade cost over $250 K cdn... that one hurt!) :D
Now... when I get some cashflow going in my business again, I'm fully expecting the bug to come roaring back in and will probably be looking for the following:
1. A really nice 2 channel amp to replace the NAD receiver on main channel duties to drive the la scala's
2. An SVS sub to plumb the bass depths that the Klipsch THX sub can't ... It doesn't play much below 25 hz, but it sure has nice output in the 30 to 80 hz range.

Chip, my 'C555ES just came today from OneCall. It wasn't supposed to arrive until tomorrow, but what a nice surprise! I'm at work right now and it's sitting here in my office. I hope to get out early to set it up, which will require some rearranging. Should be fun. Hope yours is working out well.

I've been bit once more. Hopefully I'll be able to upgrade my nOrh 3.0s to either wood 4.0s or wood 5.1s. If not, let's just say I'll still be one happy camper.

My upgrade bug was biting me last year more so than this year, mainly since I've pretty much upgraded everything that I can--I wouldn't get much improvement with further upgrades (except megabuck ones), and I'm a poor underpaid slob anyway. :)
Last year's upgrades: Mitsubishi 46805 46" HDTV, Outlaw 1050 (from Yamaha 795), SVS sub + amp, Sony DVP-S9000ES, Pronto, and 12 gauge speaker wire.
This year's upgrades: JVC S-VHS VCR (old VCR died), ISF calibration, SilverCat interconnects for SACD, Sony MXD-D3 CD/MD deck. That's about it. This year I sprung for a digital camcorder and a trip to Alaska, instead of HT upgrades.
The Outlaw 950 has me drooling though, but I'll probably pass at this point since I'd need an amp and that would blow the budget big time. The 1050 works great in my room anyway. When I'm in a bigger house then I'll get a 950 + amp. :)
