Listen up, I was reading about Partypoker.com in the Evening Standard (London, England) newspaper and they were raving on about how Internet players have won THOUSANDS off these websites from just playing with $50 or £100 at the start [IMG]

So I signed up to play Poker. I made sure I played the FREE version, but I got my a$$ kicked because 1) I have no idea how to play it and 2) It's too bloody complex and fast [IMG]

So I switched to Blackjack. I thought, I know this, I played it when I was a student. So I went to play it FREE of course and again I kept losing! Then when I checked the rules it was totally different to how I used to play it! Anyway, I got into playing it [IMG]

Then I signed up for real. I played with £50 at one site and went up to £110 but then back down to £10. I tried another site and then same thing happened! Then I followed the instructions and they tried to show me a How To guide (beating the odds/house) but I still don't get it?

Who here has played Internet Poker or Blackjack and is any good?

    Real Name:
    Paul McElligott
Chris Moneymaker (his real name) won the World Series of Poker (and $3 million) after entering an online tournament for less than $40. Not too shabby.

But to answer your question, I've played online poker with fake money and I suck too, but not as bad some of the other players. [IMG]

No, players have won THOUSANDS off other players... apparently other players like yourself.

The online poker thing is a HUGE trend here in the states, In fact I don't think I've gone a day in the last 3 months without hearing someone mention ultimatebet, partpoker or one of the countless other texas hold em games online.

The big thing about playing with fake money online is that people don't bet realistically, so its very hard to get a feel for the game. The best thing is to get some friends together and learn that way in some friendly games.

I just signed up for Party Poker and have only played for fake money. I've found that people play realistically with the lowest dollar figures.

In a month or so, once I get the feel of the game, I'll move on to real cash.

I've been playing Poker offline for about 6 years and online for the last 2. It's a different game online than it is in a live casino with real opponents. There will be much more betting and very agressive betting at that. There will be a lot of bluffing, but you have to pick your moments when calling them or you may get busted real fast.

I consistently win about $400-500 a month online and have won up to $2000 in a month, and I play relatively low limit poker ($1-$2 and $25 No-Limit).

If you're a solid player, tight and very agressive then you will do fairly well. Just be sure to not bet over your means, always remember that the money you're playing with could disappear in one hand. You have to be able to live with that if it happens, if you can't.. then you're playing over your head.

The ESPN/WPT craze has brought a lot of people online to play and most of them are absolutely horrible. This is a two-edged sword though. as while you are winning a lot of pots off these clueless players, you will lose some really tough ones too when they catch their 2-outer on the river after staying in a hand far too long. If you can resist the urge to slam your fist through the monitor when these happen, then you should be ok in the long run.

    Good Luck!

I've played poker very casually for 10 years, and now that's it's trendy I started a lunchroom game at work and play online. The only thing about some of the online sites is this, it can take a lot to get your money to the site. Most major credit cards won't charge to a gambling site. Just a word of warning.

Also, when playing for fake money, people chase long shot straights and bluff like crazy because there's no downside. When you get into a real game it will be different play because people actually CARE if they lose.

And yes, I know a person that was fired and is now making his living playing poker online. Coupla hours a day and he's set. Not a career by any stretch of the imagination, but for now he's happy.

    Good luck!

I played with play money at pokerstars for a couple months. Then I started with the minimum deposit, 50us. Since then I've cashed out 160US and still have the 50us in my account.
I've never played poker before, all my experience came from watching television.
I've developed a certain "formula" that allows me to play .25/.50 limit hold'em and have reasonable success. The key is to not get too overanxious and to make sure you're playing quality hands. You're not going to win all the time, and that shouldn't even be your goal. the key is to maximize your winnings when you win.

I had to sign up for some online payment site, paypal wouldn't work.
I know that since I signed up pokerstars.com has lowered the minimum deposit to 25bucks.

No online Poker sites take PayPal. You'll need to sign up for an account at Neteller, which is the standard broker for virtually all Poker sites online.

With a Neteller account you'll be able to move money in and out as well as from site to site with no hassle at all. All EFT transfers are free.

What will really tick you off is when you are on Party Poker and you flop a full house and go all in. Well someone stays with you and catches a 6 on the river to complete a four of a kind to beat you soundly after they called your all in with a 96 off.
