Once in awhile I have the opportunity to see a non-mainstream film that most
people would have probably passed over theatrically. When that film becomes
a revelation of sorts to me, I try to come here and urge fellow members to consider
a blind Blu-ray purchase.
There are two main problems with the film I am about to recommend to all of you,
Blue is the Warmest Color.
The first problem is the subject matter of the film. I have no problem admitting that
I was attracted by the film's trailer (which I will include below) and the fact that it's
the kind of film that would probably appeal to many men (and some women).
So, yes, I intended to watch this film for the wrong reasons.
The film is rated NC-17, and is quite graphic in its depiction of lesbian sex.
However, the story and the performances by its two main actresses are intriguing.
Though the film runs 3 hours in length, it never felt that long.
For those that aren't prudish, nor turned off by the subject matter, this is probably
going to be one of the best films you have seen in the past few months.
That's the angle I am hoping to sell this film on. I think it is one of those movies
that will slip under most viewer's radar, but yet, is very worthy of attention.
Now here is the second problem....
Criterion is selling the Blu-ray for $19.95. That's fantastic. However, they have
apparently promised that a deluxe version will be released at a later date. I think
most people that enjoy this film as much as I did, will want the deluxe version.
That being said, not the worst idea in the world to gamble $20 on this Blu-ray.
Be aware this is a French film with subtitles.
Watch the trailer below. Read some online reviews. I think you will be compelled
to watch.
