Ah, see, I should have given you the benefit of the doubt. Why don't you post one of what you have? Now I'm eager to see!

Are you dead set on the red now?

Mike,

If I can't get it right I certainly will. But I like a
challenge :)

Owen,

I am not set in stone on anything... But I am heavily leaning
towards the red...

Ohh yeah and I forgot to mention I am going to build the XO's
to be external. I am going to build boxes to hold each XO
and the boxed will be finished in the same base coat, clear
coat as the mains and they will have lucite display windows
to show off the electronics :)

I will need 10 sets of binding posts to do this..I was going
to use Cardas posts but at $32.00 a set... Needing 10 sets
that ain't happening :)

Brett,

For a speaker such as this, I think external XO boxes are a good idea. Just make sure since you're going to show off the components that you make it look pretty! :)

I think I'd just get the binding posts that John uses in most of his kits.

Ok here is a crude rendering of the materials.. I didn't
render the ribbons or mids that would take me a while (you know
how I am when it comes to being accurate) :)

Brian,

I was BS'n with Gomie last night about this.. I am going to
go with the Parts Express Dayton Gold Posts $9.00 a pair
and I will need 10 pairs. I am also going to go ahead and
order SoniCaps and Mills Resistors. John is including Solen
Caps and regular ceramic resistors in the kit. I wish I
could replace the inductors with foil wound but messing
with the DCR Values might throw off the phase coherency of
the XO's which John made sure was correct phase wise.

Internal wire..... I was thinking about buying a large
Jantzen Foil Inductor and unspooling it and using the copper
foil to wire all the drivers. Gomie says go with Goertz(sp?)
wire...

Yep the XO's will be pretty! Hell I might mount all the
components on black velvet :)

Mike, that's extremely difficult if not impossible, with MDF, unless you have a 3-axis NC router. A good fantasy, but not practical:) The color and logo should be enough to really make Brett's speakers stand apart as the talk of the town.

Mike,

Sorry that's not gonna happen :) I can't mess with the
design of the speakers because the XO is already worked out
for this cabinet.. Changing the design would require an XO
rework and I can't do it.. Besides that, I don't honestly
care for those Pininfarina speakers, seen them numerous
times before.. I personaly love the Wilson-Benesch Bishops
:)

*Update*

"Refresh" this topic and my rendering above should update.
I am making progress on the cabinet finish but I still am
stumped on how I want to shape the bases and how I want to
finish them. I decided that rock finishes just do not look
right at all. I am either going to go with a piano black
on the bases or something else..

I need to work on the shape of the base though as it just
looks too generic because the cabinets will have a 2" round
over on all corners and look much more smooth than a rectangle
base does.

I dunno.. I can't make up my mind.. The more I look at them
in red the more I am thinking maybe red is just too loud..

I could just as easily do them in a deep metallic silver
which would match my tube amps and my pre amp and the
carbon fiber would go great with metallic silver..

I may just go silver.... I am thinking red will just be
way too over the top.

Yeah, Brett, I was thinking the same thing. I really like the red more than I thought, but I'd still vote for a silvery/graphite finish (I think the darker graphite will look better than a lighter silver with the yellow speaks)which would go well with the carbon and the gloss black and chrome of the base (I love what you did with the legs/base). The again, it depends what the rest of your room/equipment looks like.

Hank,

Or how about Piano Black with the Brushed Aluminum Metalaminate ?

So many options.... I really need to think this one through
because once it's done it's done... And I want them to look
as classy as possible.

What about piano black for the box and chrome for the stands?and make the baffle the hot red

Brett, yes, lots of combos, but generally, darker cabinets won't be quite as intrusive as colors, so carbon/graphite would work and for a baffle, I'd use one of the Metalaminates. Just model the combos, sleep on it and pick one. Just do it!;)

I like that WilsonArt stuff... the brushed aluminum would look really nice as a baffle on a piano black speaker. I just don't know how it would look with the yellow drivers. And I guess you'd need to narrow it down to chrome or brushed, since having both might be a bit much.

Brett, what does the rest of your equipment/rack/setup look like? I took a quick look at your site but didn't see any pictures of your gear all set up.
