I couldn't belive that a McIntosh 2100 Amp wa on the ground for $75 at the Haight Ashbury Goodwill store. Just about collapased walking 6 blocks with it but WELL WORTH THE EFFORT!
It has XLR connections on it
Do I need a matching Xformer to go to a RCA connector or just an adapter?
Look in pretty good condition but I am almost afraid to turn it on

    What a steal--even if it needs a once-over by a tech.

I've got a 2100 but it has RCA jacks not XLR--strange.

McIntosh is still around and will sell you a manual--if I had one I would look into whether they sometimes have three prong XLR connections. Maybe this will drive me to order a manual.

And you didn't try to talk them down at all?! Really nice going and post a pic if you can. There are the most amazing gems that one finds in places like that. Garage sales, recycling centers, pawn shops (but they seem to have wised up), salvation army. Fisher speakers huh? Those were my first set way back when. Not sure if there's enough nostalgia left in me for those though.

what kind of shape is the chrome deck in? Make sure the screws holding the heatsinks are tight. What a nice find!

Grant, that's one impressive find! Back in the day, I was deciding between an MC-2100 and a Marantz Model 250. Opted for the Marantz. Impressive. Go there again soon and see if a C-28 shows up! [IMG]

I guess the "classic look" of the McIntosh piece didn't attract another purchaser. One truly had to know McIntosh to be able to pick this piece out. Wow, what a great find !!

The thing was hiding in the corner with only the back showing, I almost missed it.
If anyone can post a picture let me know and I will show off the goodwill special!

Sorry about my rude departure but I thought I was going to miss my plane, sometimes the time does go by......

Well there was a little hum in one channel so I took it down to my usual electronics-fix-it shop. Well lo & behold they informed me that's what they started out specializing in! They also wanted to buy it off me but I resisted.
I got it back and hooked it up to the speakers in my Model Train Room (doesn't everyone have one???) and geez whiz it sounded great! I put the cd on pause and turned those knobs to the max and still could tell the thing was on.
    I was truly impressed!
So then I swapped the Missions I had hooked up with my KEFs in the bedroom and I was even more impressed!
I understand why they go for $400 or so on ebay.
    Thanks everyone
    Grant

What kind of trains do you have. I have been collecting Lionel and some German brands. I will get back to you with the other brands. My Lionels date from 52 to 58. Love the triple conducting track.
