What's new

I do not like this as a movie; I do not think it will be groovy. (1 Viewer)

In reference to the makeup, everyone I know who has seen the previews thinks Mike Myers is a really scary-looking cat, more appropriate to "Island of Dr. Moreau" than "The Cat in the Hat."

The cat is supposed to make you smile, not run and hide under the bed.

Brian,
The cat has always freaked me out. The ride in Universal Studios is like an acid trip for kids, too.

"It's sort of like that, because it's a relatable world. But it's a limited color palette
I'm not sure what in the heck this guy is talking about, but it sounds like the stuff nightmares are made of. This movie just looks wrong, thats really the only way I can put it.

Now what would have been really cool, imagine a Pixar DR Suess movie 2 hours long but comprised of 4 or 5 separate animated versions of Dr Suess books...that would rock..

Am I the only one bothered by the Cat ogling the picture of the kids' mother? Dr. Suess would never have allowed that if he were alive. A character from a childrens' book is not supposed to be pulling out centerfolds of parents' pictures so that he can stare at it with lust.

I like porn as much as the next guy :b but this seems so incredibly out of place. I don't see how I could enjoy the rest of the flick after seeing that blasphemous scene.

I too have problem with this. Obviously it's there to appeal to adults.

My big fear for this is that it will turn into Austin Powers/Dr. Evil in a cat suit. This particular trailer reeks of this already.

Absolutely.
Sure, The Grinch had the key party, but that was subtle(ish). Hell, if I hadn't seen The Ice Storm, I wouldn't know the significance of the keys in the bowl.
But the centrefold photo is just plunging to new depths. It's wrong. Wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong.

The cats hat gets "erect" too if I remember correctly.

I was totally confused when I saw the early trailer with that scene.

Like they didn't have anything to work with? They have to throw something like that in?

Just poor taste any way you look at it. But to lead the sales with that?

I think Mike Myers can't think of original thoughts in the first place.

Dr. Evil from Braincandy
MiniMe from Smokey and the Bandit

How about you huh?
You went out of your way to say that.
You could use some "lighten up" as well :b
This is not a great site to visit if you don't want to hear lots of different opinions;)

Wow, I just saw the trailer at the theater. I love the line where the girl says "Not my mother's dress! You've ruined it!" The cat goes into sassy woman mode and says "Ruined? It was ruined when she bought it!" (snap-snap-snap)

I about died when I saw that. It was so funny I couldn't wipe the grin off my face. Every time I see an ad for this movie, it draws me in more and more. At first I was horrified by the thought of this movie, and the image of Myers in cat makeup was the stuff of nightmares, but now I'm dying to see it.

Friday, baby, YEAH!

Rotten Tomatoes has 5 reviews up - not from mainstream sources, and they are all negative. This could be this years first real disaster. Looks like this cat doesn't even have one life. (I don't like the trailer).

Whatever interest I might have had in this has been completely wiped away by the commercials I've seen...it completely fails to capture any of the mood or style of Dr Seuss.

Whimsy is the most difficult type of comedy to transfer from the printed word to the screen. Looks like they decided they couldn't do it and went for the cheap "adult" jokes. The trailer is anti-Suess to a great extent methinks.
