Chris,

I chose that particular video card
because it was the lowest priced card
in Dell's configuration that supported
their 24" monitor (I did a check).

It sounds like I am totally wasting
my money with this dual Xeon processor.

The dual-core Pentium/AMD processors
are due out shortly and perhaps I'll
benefit from waiting.

I'm rather disappointed in all this but
I appreciate your help nonetheless.

The biggest benefit of dual core chips (which will be coming soon) is that unlike the Xeon, the processor itself can help in the division of incoming tasks, which is supposedly one of the "big boons".

I don't think it's that you're "wasting your money" per se; there are lots of people where those functions are exactly what everyone I know recommends; one of the offices I work with uses Aavid/Matrox R.X type devices all day, and in those environments, it's something you can almost not live without.

But, if you are willing to "wait" a short bit (very short) you may be rewarded.. outside of Dual cores, we're starting to see AMD64s with SSE3 support coming down the pipe, and new design Intels due soon.

Ron,
I'm curious... Did you try and cancel your order (or change it) after reading comments here ?

Ken,

The order should be cancelled
this morning.

I'm going to wait another 2-3
months until the dual-core
processors arrive and then go
with the best system I can buy
for about $4K.

Will probably go back to Alienware.

Hey...really....thanks everybody
for all the advice given here.
