I love Hugh Laurie, so i'm looking forward to the show, which is only starting here in Estonia.
It would be strange seeing him in such a different role though, but no doubt interesting.

I was cracking up through most of the first half of this episode. Having House be Foreman's beyotch was realized pretty well. House's facial expressions were killing me. It did make you wonder what House was like as an up-and-coming intern/resident before his reputation in diagnostics took root.

He deserves the Golden Globe for his facial expressions alone! I look forward to his acceptance speech (hope).

House is getting more interesting this season - starting to get more into the characters and not just "disease of the week".

Foreman: "You ordered MRIs for the whole maternity ward".
House: "Go ahead and cancel them, but one of them needs it. I wonder which one?"

I agree, that was one of my only gripes with the first season, that and the fact that none of the main patients die. But this season the medical cases have almost been secondary so it's not really an issue.

The show continues to keep me on the fence as to whether or not House is a good or bad character. I guess its the reason I watch. As funny as some of the show was especially the jelly scene. I was horrified by...
the scene of House injecting the patiant then as he's walking away, he turns to see her convulsing in the snow. He then makes the assumption that "someone else will notice", then turns around and walks away. Even if he explained to her the gravity of her situation, how could he be THAT sure that she would awnser truthfuly. It had already been proven the she had a mentaly disorder that caused her lie almost spontaniously.

I cant help but expect that like all "mad scientists" he will eventually get someone killed.

By the way. What are the spoiler rules for this thread? If this is a discussion thread and there will not be any re-broadcast of the show once it airs then do we need them??

Just spoiler the previews of upcoming episode (or upcoming plot/casting details). Once it's aired, no real need for spoilers.

What an odd episode...

I realize they were going for some role switching for fun, but they seemed to take it too far. Cameron was a bitch (not typical for her at all...Miss empathy), and broke rules/lied the way House usually would (again, not like her). House was even more dangerous/risky/rebellious than I've ever seen him - giving that woman the syringe outside the hospital - and, he was uncharacteristically stubborn about her diagnoses (aplastic anemia). He's usually more curious rather than making a snap judgement and sticking to it.

Did anyone else see the preview? Isn't that a season 1 repeat?

Yes, defintiely from season 1. IIRC it aired as episode #2. (And a quick check proves I'm wrong... it was ep 5)

Just curious, how much do you guys think the character of House makes a year?

Me and the wife were dicussing it, and he at least has to be pulling $200K...wouldn't you think?

He is very famous in the medical world no?

Oh, man, when House shot up the woman outside the hospital, I thought my wife was gonna throw her coffee cup at the TV! She has a definite love/hate relationship with the guy.

Great show, and I love Cuddy stringing Foreman along with the idea his position might last a while!

I think she was serious until she realized that the competition between him and House caused them both to almost completely miss the diagnosis and potentially kill the patient!

Hmm, according to this House is a nephrologist. In Princeton NJ, Nephrologists make good money-- average $205K, and the 75th percentile make about $245K. House is also an "infectious disease specialist" (avg salary 177K, 75th 205K), runs a "department"-- though presumably no longer--and has teaching responsibilities. But, he has a light load, and probably isn't so hot when it comes to negotiating a raise-- unless he's able to blackmail.

Actually House was initially focused on another diagnosis entirely and came to the aplastic anemia conclusion later. And I don't think the writers were just going for some role-switching "for fun". They presented the characters with a new set of circumstances and everybody reacted accordingly: House resentful and needling of his new "boss", needing to show him who the better doctor is and who really runs the team, Foreman trying to throw his weight around and get even with House now that he's out from under his thumb, Chase trying to keep a low profile thanks to his recent troubles and waiting to see which way the political winds blow and Cameron - Cameron pissed off at being passed over for the temporary supervisory gig and therefore trying to prove that a) she can disagree with House, b) be just as tough as him, c) take a position and stick with it. (Presumably evidence of leadership ability in her mind.)

Their behavior may have been different, but so were the circumstances. And I thought their behavior was perfectly in character given the circumstances.

Regards,

Joe

It was almost like watching each one of the characters playing the other one. House and Foreman switch. Cameron and Chase switch. Not all of their characteristics but one of their personalities that dominate the make up of that character.

Yet another winner of an episode.

House and Stacy almost get down with it, but duty calls.

Who knew Danny Noonan would get treated by House via cell phone? Loved the whole interaction and dissection of the power structure in the diag group.

I kept racking my brain about who the attractive woman playing the patient's wife was. She looked so familiar, but I couldn't make the connection. Just before the episode ended, it hit me that it was Wallace's mom from Veronica Mars.

Regards,
