We moved into our new home in November and are working on our Dennis Erskine designed dedicated home theater and doing the work ourselves. It is 15 x 26.

We have Triad rear and surround silver in wall speakers mounted in columns and Triad in wall gold’s for the front 3. We have a Madrigal DILA projector with panamorph lens sitting on the floor in the equipment room and a Pioneer DVL909 laserdisc. We have not purchased the DVD player, pre amp or amps yet but are looking at an Outlaw 950 and their M200 separates for power. We are planning on SVS sub woofers.

There will also be a 136” microperf Stewart Firehawk screen and 8 Berkline 88 red micro fiber powered seats that we just ordered. a

I finally added some pictures of the progress. www.claunch.org/ken

Thanks

Ken,
The design of the room looks great. I can't wait to see some pics of the "in progress" work. I think you've definately got something good here. God willing, and budget permitting, this design should give you a pretty sweet piece of entertainment.

Look forward to future pics.

Looks like a lot of fun Ken. Keep us informed so those of us without dedicated home theaters can live vicariously through you.

Ken:

Beautiful house. You both must be really proud.

We have a gallery on HTF that allows you to upload your own pictures if you want here.

The 950 combo with the M200s is a great setup. I have the 950 with the 770 and love the combo.

I love forward to seeing the progress of the theater as it gets done. Between you, Wes, Scott Pope and Darren H we have all been able to see what can be done when people are able to put their dreams into reality.

The theatre that I am designing will have a 50's motif in the concession lobby upstairs but the downstairs lobby will have a definate Star Wars element too! My sister has a large Phantom Menace cardboard tower display that will start the anticipation.

I am way jealous, but still very happy for you at the same time for sure.

My consistant out loud thinking response was simpley "WOW!" looking over your online theater pictorial.

Ken-
My wife and I are in the middle of a theater project as part of new home construction. I am trying to come up with a budget for the GoM fabric and the batting. Our theater is close to the size of yours. If you don't mind me asking what did the columns, fabric and batting/backing cost?

What was that you were staggaring the studs in the walls for? how does that affect the sound?

Your Quote: I am trying to come up with a budget for the
GoM fabric and the batting.

Pardon my ignorance but what does GoM stand for?

Thank you,
Allan

Allan-

GoM is short for Guilford of Maine. They make fabric that is accoustically transparent and designed for theater and other commercial uses. Dennis Erskine who designed ken's theater usually specified GoM fabric.

Thanks Adam.
So where can I find GoM fabrics? Is this something that typically must be specially ordered or might I be able to find it at a local specialty fabric store or through one of my local A/V specialists?

I was on travel all week and just getting a chance to answer any questions.

Adam-

I had our custom cabinet builder do the columns out of 3/4" MDF. He did all 8 for $400.00. The furring strips are 1” MDF, about $100.00.

The GOM Fabric was 13.00 per yard plus shipping.

Batting was around $100.00.

I am not sure what the Insul-Shield cost. The builder got it for me and had it delivered when the insulation company was doing a couple of other houses and included it in the cost of insulation for the whole house. I got 2 roles and just finished the 1st roll today. I am going to use about 40 feet of the other tomorrow.

Allan P-

I bought the GOM off the Internet.

Thanks for all the nice comments. We can't wait.

I sent the panamorph lens back to the manufacturer and they modified it to fit directly to the projector. It is supposed to be shipped on Monday.

Thanks again…..Ken
