Well, I was going to create a new thread, but Frank has beaten me to the punch, so I guess I can use this one. :) For the record, I will try to seperate this list into two sections: "3 for $25" and "2 for $15." But I would really like to keep this list updated as much as possible.

The list below is made up of titles I've seen for sale at the HV's near me, as well on their site and what others have posted buying at other forums.

You can search for the nearest Hollywood Video HERE.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
*Are all Hollywood Video stores participating?
There are reports that a few HV's are not participating in the 3 for $25 deal. If you're not sure, please call your store ahead of time to confirm that they are participating.

*How long will this sale last?
There really is no way to determine how long the sale will last, as it seems to be a corporate decision, not store-specific. However, HV has always had sales of this kind, ranging from "2 for $15" to "3 for $30," so technically, the sale does not ever end.

*Some of these titles are available in Widescreen or Pan-and-Scan (Full Frame). What version does HV sell?
Hollywood Video always sells the Widescreen versions of a title.

*Some of these titles are available in Rated and Unrated versions. What version does HV sell?
Hollywood Video always sells the Rated versions of a title.

*What kind of cases are the discs sold in?
The movies are always sold in keepcases, including films that are normally sold in snappers. Furthermore, any films that normally come with slipcases/fold-out designs are sold in standard keepcases.

*Are there any stickers on the cases/discs?
Generally there are no stickers of any kind on the packaging or discs, but a few stores have been putting security stickers inside the case.

*Are inserts included?
NO inserts/booklets are included.

*Hey, this disc keeps breaking up/will not play in my player. Can I return it?
All films sold are given a year-long warranty. Return the film with your receipt, and you can exchange it for another copy of the same film.

*What if I return a defective copy, but there are no more copies of that title available?
It can be exchanged for a different title.

*Are all the movies listed available at all stores?
NO. Please keep in mind that this is simply a master list of all known titles for sale. Not all stores will carry the same titles.

*I found 3 or more titles I want in the "3 for $25" bin. Will I have to pay the normal sticker price for the other titles?
No. If you find four or five titles (or seven or eight, etc.) in the "3 for $25" pile, you will be charged $8.35 for any additional titles after the initial three.

*How often does Hollywood Video add new titles to their used bins?
According the official website, HV adds a handful of new titles each Sunday. If you don't see your favorite current release on the master list, don't worry: it's safe to assume that the majority of new releases (that are not catalog titles) will eventually hit the bins. But for movies that are still popular rentals, it will take a bit longer before they are sold, ranging anywhere from 4 - 8 weeks from its release date.

*I found some films at Hollywood Video for sale that are not included on the master list. Can they be included?
Sure! Please just create a new post listing the titles, and they will be included in the next update. That also keeps the list at the top of the forum. :)

Found a location that was selling 'The Rundown'.

Got 'Intolerable Cruelty' & 'Cold Creek Manor' with it.

Unfortunately, CCM is a total dog.

I'll be selling it back for $5 today and calling it a 'rental'.

Bought nine movies so far on 3/$25, traded back two (CCM & American Wedding).

Not bad, considering I don't goto the theater, rent movies, or buy Day-One new releases.

Here's another bit of HV news...

I mentioned to the clerk that a big factor in making rental purchases at HV was that they place movies in new cases (at least at my three locations).

He told me that this practice might be ending soon due to the added cost of the cases and manpower needed to swap them out of the security cases.

I expressed disappointed and indicated that I would be reluctant to buy a rental in a security case.

Having to purchase new cases for my ex-rentals would affect my cost margins and cause me to reconsider my purchases.

After all, if I just wanted a rental in crappy security case for $10, I could goto BB.

I just talking and wasn't fishing around for anything, but the clerk disappeared into the back and returned with a bag of 25 new cases.

He handed it to me and simply said 'You're a Regular, I don't want to lose you over a policy change, start using these when they eventually make the change'.

Needless to say, I was extremely grateful.

It's really cool to throw all your business in one direction and actually have someone acknowledge that they're glad to have you as a customer.

========================

BTW, only one of my three locations is putting security stickers on the discs.

Apparently, they have alot of merchandise 'walking' out the door.

All things being equal, I'm now avoiding this location to eliminate the sticker issue.

I've also noted that the 3/$25 is a minimum purchase and that a four or five disk buy at the same time will equal the $8.33ea price. Good to know when you run into that fourth disk that you want but don't really want to purchase six total.

I added eight new titles to the list:
Cold Creek Manor
Wonderland
Out of Time
Bruce Almighty
The Italian Job
Le Divorce
Spun
Poolhall Junkies

I'll update the FAQ by the end of the weekend with the info given in the last few posts.

I'll go to a HV around my area either tomorrow while waiting between movies or next week and see what titles I'm missing from the list. I'll also start work on seperating the master list into two piles (3 for $25/2 for $15) and try to get some questions answered, including a date on when the sale stops. Though since I've been doing this for about a year now, I don't think the sale ever actually ends, they just slightly change, like 3 for $30 or such (edit: as Frank noted).

Dumped 'Cold Creek Manor' for $7 (!) and was exceedingly glad to do so...

Apparently, I could have gotten more ($6) for 'American Wedding', but I was eager to rid myself of that turkey as well.

What a great deal...I picked up Far From Heaven, Chicago and Shattered Glass. They had just gotten in three HUGE cases of titles that the clerk let me look thru (that's how I got SG). Definitely worth the trip!

Here's a tricky thought, buy three movies you could care less about but are priced at $14.99 normally.

Hold them unopened for a few months and then go back and voice a change of heart.

Swap for M&C, LS, or whatever else is new at the time.

Then again, the sale might go indefinitely, but I doubt it.

3/$30 or 3/$33 is going to hurt...

My local shop told me 7 weeks from release date when I asked about Last Samurai. Does that seem to be the case with other titles?

OK, let's say you get 'Cold Creek Manor' marked as $14.99 during the sale (so it actually only costs $8.33).

You *don't* open it and find out later the movie is junk.

You come back and ask to exchange it for something else.

They *should* let you exchange for another movie marked $14.99, even if the sale is over.

When you get a good price to begin with, the key is to exchange instead of return.

I think 4 to 6 weeks is the norm. I think it depends on how well the title in question is renting. Big titles like The Last Samurai will most likely hit the used racks about a month or two after its release.

A few titles don't seem to make it to the sale. Kill Bill comes to mind and there are probably others. Also it might be best to get a feel of the new(older) titles at Wal-Mart. I've noted a few of these brand new for slightly more or slightly less than the Hollywood sale prices.
