I live about 200 yards from high tension lines and I never even notice them unless I happen to be walking under them. Back in December when seemingly 90% of the greater Seattle area was without power we were sitting pretty since the high tension lines go straight into our substation and then underground to the houses in the neighborhood. One of the few times I can say that living practically under the lines was a major plus.
