Today's USA Today has a nice article on the Twilight Zone re-releases (all incarnations)

The classic series will be remastered to hi-def and come out in season sets starting 12/28 and cotinuing in 2005. Each box will retail for $120 (higher than the current boxes). Image will package these with special features and commentaries. More info can be found via the link.

Shame about the price, but I'm glad I didn't get the current releases. I;ve been wanting to get these forever, since the first VHS started coming out, and always held off, waiting for an ideal set. this looks like the one!

Higher price? How does the episode count compare with the old sets?

And how many were on the previous sets? (Sorry, not that familiar with them.)

Here is a better link. I have one of the sets I picked up real cheap. I'll gladly get the whole show in season sets since it will be remastered and have plenty of extras.

Hey Image, You suck! Blood Sucking Scumbags.
Didn't you make enough money the first time around when the DVD's were $24.95 LIST!!! Then the repackaged Boxes? Pox on them. [IMG] [IMG]

Before everyone rips Image to shreds on this, please don't overlook the fact that they've remastered all the episodes and added bonus features such as commentaries. Those had to come at a cost.

Assuming a pre-order discount of 30%, this series can probably be had for under $90 a set. If the remastering and special features aren't must haves, you can still order the original boxes. They all under $60 each at DDD with the 20% sale.

Wow! What a bargain, another $500+. I fail to see the advantage.

This is sad, indeed. I sold my original 5 sets on E-bay after hearing of these sets. I love the original Twilight Zone. I hope I can find these sets at a good price. I think they should go for about $60.00 per season. If they are more I will have a hard time picking them up as I'm not rich.

I highly doubt anyone will pay 120 bucks for these. If retail is indeed $119.99 (which is unlikely, probably preliminary, if anything) it would sell for about $83 over at Amazon, and with STL that all comes down to $75. Not very cheap but doable.

Yes, but this series has already generated quite a bit of revenue, and will continue to do so. This is gouging, pure and simple.

Well here's another TV series that I love that I won't be able to afford. I can see tons of these just sitting on the shelves. I mean, seriously, are there that many Twilight Zone fans out there willing to pay this kind of money?

Image Entertainment should set retail price at no more than $89.95 per season if they expect this release to sell well.

    That is all.

As with anything, if you love it... you'll pay. I'm a HUGE Twilight Zone fan, and have often lamented the sub-par transfers on the existing DVDs (the earlier volumes in particular, which were mastered from videotapes for God's sake!). Remastered in high-def? I'm absolutely there. This is my all-time favorite TV series, so cost is NOT a factor if they're done right.

Robert: yes, all of season one's episodes were half an hour in length. In fact, only season four featured hour-long episodes.

YES, and they know it. They put a link to our wallets and will suck us dry as long as we let them. For all of us who took the FIRST plunge, they should have a special rate..We're talking 43 DVDS!!!! I could justify 2 complete releases, but three!? If anything, they should have listed them a $39.99 which is a great rate for TV Shows on DVD. My Favorite Martian on Rhino is doing such.

No sale. I recently got all the existing boxed sets, and except for my annoyance over two of the videotaped episodes being presented as kinescopes ("Static" and "Twenty-Two") I'm reasonably satisfied with what I've got and am not about to shell out more money again.

TWILIGHT ZONE: SEASON ONE sounds like a good package. I just hope it also includes the DESILU PLAYHOUSE episode, "The Time Element", which was scripted by Serling and was the unofficial pilot to THE TWILIGHT ZONE. William Bendix repeatedly dreams that he travels back in time to Hawaii on Dec. 7th, 1941, with the knowledge of what is about to happen.

The episode still exists in fine shape; TV LAND ran it a few times several years ago on its MUSEUM OF RADIO & TELEVISION SHOWCASE program.

I wonder if Image's Television division is going to become the Criterion Collection of the classic TV on DVD world. Very high quality, but you have to pay for it.

I actually may wait for the probably inevitable best-of collection for this series, as not all episodes of this show are classics and Image is including extras for the best-ofs of their other somewhat expensive series, "The Dick Van Dyke Show".
