I would like to have a decent sound system hooked up to my computer. I use it as my stereo, tv, dvd player and blu ray player. I am restricted to stereo, but I'm not terribly concerned with this. The speakers I am using right now are terrible. I already own this receiver http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Home/AV-Receivers/Pioneer+Receivers/VSX-517-K%7CS (not great but free), and a 150w 15" infinity subwoofer. All I need now is a set of bookshelf speakers to finish it off. I would like to spend less than $200 for the pair.

There are thousands of speakers out there and I have no idea where to start.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have also considered avoiding using the receiver and subwoofer and just buying these...

Can I use these speakers and my subwoofer without using the receiver?

Go to a shop and try some. I like the speakers Yamaha produce at that price range but you should go and have a check yourself.
