At the risk of sounding like a broken record, this show is absolutely phenomenal: it's about as close to perfect as a show can get these days. Without a shred of hyperbole, this is storytelling at its finest.

This show reminds me a lot of 'Rectify' with the pacing, storytelling and attention to detail.

McConaughey is owning that role though. Might as well just hand him the Emmy now.

I thought the show was great but given how dark it is, I think I can only handle one episode at a time.
I just watched the first three in a row. I only plan on watching one though, but I couldn't stop until I watched all three.

Word:
And the auteur-anthology format—one writer, one director, two movie stars, and one story per season, with a beginning, middle, and end—could be revolutionary. As I wrote last month, “not every narrative is best created by committee or best told as an open-ended epic. … For a certain kind of plot-centric series, the True Detective model could alleviate some of television's muddling structural issues and liberate showrunners to take full advantage of the medium's greatest asset: time. Some characters deserve eight hours on screen. In a theater, you can't do that. On TV, you can.”

Well, if this is a one shot deal and is as successful as it has started, think of the possibilities. You will get renewable star power as there is not a long term commitment. Why not take a one season chance and forego a movie role.. How many A-listers might take a shot at something like this?

I'm loving this show so far. It's the top of my DVR watch list right now.

Totally agreed Josh!

Tremendous, gripping final sequence to episode 4: simply one of the best action sequences I've ever seen on television.

Here's an interesting piece on how the final 6-minute sequence in a single shot.
The mid-season signature "one shot" from episode 4 feels like Casino meets Grand Theft Auto meets Sons of Anarchy. Just exceptional!

The MTV article was good but didn't actually have the clip, this one does:

Well I started watching this today, and ended up watching all five episodes. What a terrific show. It's like an 8 hour feature film.Tonight's episode really turned the story on its ear.

Great episode tonight, as all of the previous ones have been.

Only two more shows to go... as I watch I keep thinking about possible future pairings. I would love to see Hanks in a role like this. Or Pacino.
